The 2018 Paralympic Winter Games begin March 9 in PyeongChang, South
Korea. There are 18 Veterans among the 74 athletes representing Team USA
at the Games, including eight Marines, seven Army Veterans, two Navy
and one Air Force Veteran. VA supports many of them through the Veterans Monthly Assistance Allowance,
which provides a monthly stipend for disabled Veterans training in
Paralympic sports. Many of these Veterans have participated in VA’s
national rehabilitation events managed by the Office of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events.
Veteran athlete discovers perseverance leads to success despite defeat
Veteran athlete Cami Gage served in the Air Force as a personnel officer from 1998-2004. Her
favorite sports include rock and ice climbing, backcountry
skiing, trail running, and stand up paddle boarding the beautiful alpine

A coordinated nationwide campaign
is being led by the Department of Defense and supported by VA as part
of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration Program. For
those who served when called upon then, it has been a long time
coming.
