Philippine Scout, Army Veteran shares story of his escape from the Bataan Death March
Amado Ante’s comrades pushed him into a ditch where he crawled into the bushes and laid low until dark. Later that night he was found by local civilians, who provided him with food, shelter and medical care.
The conference, organized by the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, provided an opportunity to build relationships between the administration, state, local, and tribal leaders who are leading efforts to better serve Veterans.

George enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps as a 17-year-old in 1943. Like many of his Navajo Code Talker comrades he lied to recruiters, claiming he was 20-years-old, while attending a school at Fort Wingate.
