In October 2017, the Veteran unemployment rate was 2.7 percent, down from 4.3 percent last October.  In comparison, the non-Veteran unemployment rate for October 2017 was 3.8 percent (not seasonally adjusted).  Additionally, Gulf War II-era Veterans (those who served after September 11, 2001) showed a rate of 3.6 percent for the month. Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Sandra K. Carter Pedersen.  Sandra served in the Navy as a cryptologic technician (administrative) from 1975 to 1997.  She earned the rank of E-9 master chief. [From VAntage Point]

On Oct. 21, I participated in the Women In Military Service for America Memorial’s 20th anniversary celebration in Arlington, Virginia.  The son of a member of the Greatest Generation, who served in the Navy during WWII, I was also given the distinct privilege and honor of creating the fine art that now hangs in the main gallery of this unique memorial as part of WIMSA’s recognition of contemporary women in the military.
