The National Endowment of the Arts
has partnered with the Department of Defense, VA and state arts
agencies to bring the restorative power of art to active duty patients and
Veterans diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress
disorders, as well as their families and caregivers.
Eugene Russell, an Army Veteran and VA photographer, has been sounding
Taps for the past 38 years. He put those skills to use recently at Quantico National Cemetery.
VA researchers hope to bring more clarity to the issue by using data from the Million Veteran Program. Several studies are now underway using MVP data, and one of them focuses on predicting breast cancer risk.
Gary enlisted in the Army in 1967 and became a Special Forces combat
medic. He served in Lopburi, Thailand, where he trained Thai soldiers
and border police medics.
