VA’s Aspire Center,
located in San Diego, California, is a 40-bed, 30,000 square-foot
facility aimed at promoting recovery in Veterans returning from wars in
Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Operation Stand Down Rebound,” sponsored by the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and
the City of Houston, provides homeless Veterans and those at risk of
becoming homeless, with the opportunity to access a broad range of
services in one convenient location.
Francis, who received rank as captain, sacrificed his life after
assuming command during combat in the Philippines. On Oct. 20, 1944,
while pinned down by enemy fire, he exposed himself and was killed while
leading an assault to destroy the final Japanese pillbox.
