Frequently Asked Question: Can I Add Bottle Deposit Information to My Label Without Applying for a New COLA?
At recent conferences, we’ve been asked whether it is necessary to apply for a new Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) to add bottle deposit information to a product label covered under an existing COLA. Good news! You do not need a new COLA if you are adding or changing bottle deposit information and not making other unallowable changes. On TTB Form 5100.31, allowable revision number 22 enables COLA holders to “add, delete, or change bottle deposit information, or container recycling information or logos,” without applying for a new COLA. This allowable revision applies to labels for wine, distilled spirits, and malt beverages.
