TTB Proposes Nine Lakes of East Tennessee AVA
We are accepting comments through November 20, 2023, on Notice No. 226, Proposed Establishment of the Nine Lakes of East Tennessee Viticultural Area, which we published in the Federal Register on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. The proposed 4,064-square mile Nine Lakes of East Tennessee viticultural area (AVA) is located in northeastern Tennessee and is not located within any established AVA.
We are making this proposal in response to a petition filed on behalf of local grape growers and winemakers. We designate viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase.
You may submit comments electronically on this proposal and view copies of the proposed rule, selected supporting materials, and any comments we receive about this proposal at Regulations.gov within Docket No. TTB-2023-0008. A link to that docket is posted at our Wine – Notices of Proposed Rulemaking page under Notice No. 226. You also may view the proposed boundaries on our AVA Map Explorer.
