TTB Establishes the Long Valley–Lake County Viticultural Area; Modifies the High Valley and North Coast Viticultural Areas
This week we formally established the Long Valley–Lake County American Viticultural Area (AVA) with the publication of T.D. TTB–188 in the Federal Register. This 7,605-acre AVA is located in Lake County, California. In the final rule, we also expanded the boundary of the established High Valley AVA to create a contiguous boundary with the new AVA, and we expanded the boundary of the established North Coast AVA to avoid a partial overlap with the new Long Valley–Lake County AVA. See Docket No. TTB–2022–0003 on Regulations.gov for all documents and public comments related to this rulemaking.
Bottlers who wish to label their wines with the new AVA as an appellation of origin must obtain a new Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) for the label, even if the currently approved label already contains another AVA appellation of origin. Please do not submit COLA applications for labels using the new AVAs until August 4, 2023, the effective date of this final rule.
You also may view the boundary of the newly-established AVA and the expanded AVAs on our AVA Map Explorer.
