The next public meeting of the Financial Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC) will be held on April 10, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. Eastern Time.
Treasury’s Acting Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Laurie Schaffer will chair the meeting on behalf of the Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen and will be joined by the Vice Chair of the FLEC, Rohit Chopra, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Martin Gruenberg, Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Board of Directors, Michael Hsu, Acting Comptroller of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Angelyque Campbell, Associate Director and Community Affairs Officer of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and Richard Cordray, Chief Operating Officer, Federal Student Aid, U.S. Department of Education, will also participate.
The meeting will focus on access to financial services for New Americans, including immigrants and refugees. It will feature a panel discussion regarding barriers that New Americans face in accessing financial services and best practices to promote inclusion. It will also include a spotlight discussion on access to financial services and products for Muslim and Arab Americans.
The meeting will recognize April as National Financial Capability Month to highlight the importance of trustworthy, accessible information for consumers making decisions about their financial lives, and the role of consumer education and robust consumer protections in improving the financial well-being of all Americans.
The meeting will also recognize April as Second Chance Month to promote opportunities for individuals who have served their sentences to reintegrate as productive members of society.
