The United States Department of Veterans' Affairs is enhancing online security to better protect your personal information. Starting soon, you’ll need to sign in to VA.gov using Login.gov or ID.me only. This change will phase out older sign-in options like DS Logon and My HealtheVet credentials.
What you need to do:
-
If you already use Login.gov or ID.me, you’re all set—no action needed.
-
If not, the VA encourages you to create a Login.gov or ID.me account now to ensure continued access to your VA health and benefit information.
🔒 Why this matters: These updates are part of VA’s ongoing commitment to protect Veteran data and ensure a consistent, streamlined user experience across all VA platforms.

President Donald Trump has officially signed H.R. 1815, the VA Home Loan Program Reform Act, into law—delivering long-awaited support for Veterans at risk of losing their homes. The bipartisan legislation modernizes the VA Home Loan program and creates a partial claim option to help Veteran homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments.
Backed by organizations like the VFW, The American Legion, Mortgage Bankers Association, and Rocket Mortgage, this law is said to be a vital step in protecting Veteran homeownership and preventing foreclosure.
Beaufort County is set to become home to a brand-new U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic thanks to a $30.46 million federal investment. The announcement was made by U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who helped secure the funding as part of the 2025 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill.
Construction timelines and groundbreaking dates are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Columbia VA concludes 2025 Summer Student Volunteer Program
The Columbia VA Health Care System recently concluded its 25th Annual Summer Student Volunteer Program with a special celebration honoring the contributions of 37 high school students. Over the course of the summer, these students collectively contributed more than 5,500 hours of service, assisting with patient transport, administrative tasks, and therapeutic activities that supported veterans and clinical staff alike.
In addition to gaining hands-on experience in a healthcare environment, the students learned valuable lessons in teamwork, patient care, and the importance of service to others, while many expressed a deeper appreciation for veterans and interest in pursuing careers in medicine, nursing, or public service.

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) has unveiled newly redesigned driver’s licenses and identification cards, set to begin issuance in August 2025.
The updated credentials feature enhanced security features making them more tamper-resistant and compliant with national REAL ID standards.
While the design has changed, customers do not need to replace their current cards unless they are expiring or being updated for another reason. All existing licenses and IDs remain valid until their expiration date.
