This new Special Edition QuickFacts is a first-ever examination of prison contraband by the Commission and presents findings from a recent project undertaken by the Office of Research and Data.
Staff reviewed the court documents for individuals sentenced between fiscal years 2019 and 2023 under §2P1.2 of the Guidelines Manual for providing or possessing contraband in prison. Staff examined various aspects of the case, including the type of contraband possessed, how the contraband was smuggled into the facility, where and how the contraband was discovered, and more.
Proposed 2025-26 priorities were published in the June 11, 2025 edition of the Federal Register.
The Commission is seeking comment on possible policy priorities for the 2025-26 amendment cycle. Comment will be accepted through July 18, 2025. Learn more
