USPTO to launch Streamlined Claim Set Pilot Program
To evaluate how focusing examination on a limited claim set impacts examination quality and patent pendency, the USPTO today announced the Streamlined Claim Set Pilot Program. Under this pilot, pending non-continuing utility applications presenting no more than one independent claim and ten total claims may be advanced out of turn for their first Office action. Applicants may bring their applications into compliance by filing a preliminary amendment.
To participate, an applicant must submit Form PTO/SB/472 (Certification and Petition to Make Special). Each Technology Center will accept approximately 200 applications into the program.
You can find more information on the pilot program in the Federal Register and on the Patent Related Notices webpage.
