Open Data Portal launches in February
After comprehensive testing in 2024 and feedback sessions, we’re scheduled to launch the Open Data Portal (ODP) on February 12. The ODP is a new platform that combines several data dissemination services into one, so you can easily discover and extract the USPTO data you need.
ODP has new capabilities for Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Patent File Wrapper data and Bulk Data previously found on the Patent Examination Data System (PEDS) and Bulk Data Storage System (BDSS).
What can I do before ODP is live February 12?
Explore our beta site and share your thoughts via our feedback survey. This beta site is not final, and should not be used for your work products.
If you’re using APIs, and have not yet done so, get your API key before the site is live. This process requires a one-time registration, and you can use the same API key for the live site. To get your API key, you must create and link your ID.me account to your MyUSPTO account. Step-by-step guidance on getting an API key is on our Getting Started page. If your documents are not in English, ID.me will require your documents to be translated.
Follow our API transition guidance if you want to transition APIs you're currently using to OPD from PEDS or BDSS. We encourage everyone to test the beta site’s API connection in your own IT environments (development or sandbox environment, for example) prior to launch. We’ll keep the beta site connection live for a short period of time after ODP launches.

What will happen to the legacy systems?
Both PEDS and BDSS will retire and eventually be replaced by ODP. PEDS will be available at least 30 days after ODP’s launch, and BDSS will be available at least 60 days post launch. We’ll share more specific dates on these retirements soon.
If you have any issues or need assistance, please email data@uspto.gov and our team will support you. Stay tuned for more updates and details about a public information session soon.
