The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Internet
Policy Task Force (IPTF) will host a public meeting on Developing
the Digital Marketplace for Copyrighted Works from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET Friday, Dec. 2016. The public meeting will be held in the Madison Auditorium at
the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, VA . The meeting is free and open to the public, and will be webcast, with “watch
parties” hosted at the USPTO’s Denver, Dallas, and Silicon Valley Regional
Offices.
Please note, for those
attending the event remotely at the Regional Offices, registration is required,
and you must bring identification.
The morning will feature
panel presentations, with a showcase of current initiatives during lunchtime,
followed by topical breakout sessions and a plenary discussion in the
afternoon. The meeting agenda, registration,
and webcast information can be found on the USPTO's IP Policy Webpage.
Information for each Regional Office are available on the USPTO's Event Page.
The meeting will
facilitate discussion about the promotion of a more robust and collaborative
digital marketplace for copyrighted works (including books, photographs, and
music), with a specific focus on initiatives related to standards development,
interoperability across digital registries, and cross-industry collaboration.
Participants will also explore the potential for future adoption and
integration of relevant emerging technologies, such as blockchain and open
source platforms, into the online marketplace. The overall goal of the meeting
is to understand the current state of affairs, identify challenges,
discuss paths forward, and determine in what ways government can be of
assistance.
