War Force to Recruit Top Engineers to Enhance American Military Technological Dominance
WASHINGTON, DC — The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM), in partnership with the US Department of War (DOW), today announced the launch of War Force, a DOW-specific recruiting initiative under OPM’s Tech Force program designed to attract exceptional software engineers to support the nation’s most critical national security missions.
Through War Force, OPM will recruit top engineering talent from across the country and connect qualified candidates with high-impact technical roles at the Department of War. The initiative builds on the success of Tech Force by tailoring recruitment to the Department’s unique operational and mission requirements.
“America’s national security depends on attracting the best technical talent to some of government’s most important missions,” OPM Director Scott Kupor said. “War Force builds on the momentum of Tech Force by connecting outstanding engineers with opportunities to solve complex challenges alongside the War Department. We’re making it easier for top talent to serve their country through meaningful technical work.”
“War Force is a call to action for patriotic forward-deployed engineers who want to serve their country and the warfighter,” Emil Michael, Chief Technology Officer of the DOW said. “Executing the key tenets of the War Department’s AI Acceleration Strategy and modernizing our enterprise demand the nation’s best talent to ensure American military technological dominance for generations to come.”
The War Force recruiting effort will launch with a targeted hiring campaign designed to attract hundreds of highly qualified applicants for Department of War technical positions.
The positions seek engineers with experience collaborating across technical and mission teams, deploying and integrating advanced technologies—including frontier AI, machine learning, automation, and data systems—and designing, building, and maintaining reliable software solutions that directly support operational needs on behalf of the American warfighter. War Force engineers will embed down to the unit level across the department to deliver tangible results that ensure a more lethal United States military.
Applicants must be US citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret/Top Secret clearance. Applications close July 10, 2026. View the job announcement and apply here.
