The HHS Office of Minority Health
Wishes You Happy Holidays
On behalf of the entire HHS Office of Minority Health family (OMH), I wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy and successful New Year. I also want to express our gratitude to OMH’s partners and many others who supported our 2024 heritage month celebrations and other activities by being the source for better health and improving health outcomes through our cultures, communities and connections.
As each of us embraces the holiday spirit, let’s continue to be the source for better health by promoting healthy blood pressure for our families, co-workers, neighbors and ourselves.
Did you know…
Across all racial and ethnic groups, less than 20% of adults with high blood pressure, or hypertension, have it under control.
Our nation’s doctor, Dr. Vivek Murthy, the 21st Surgeon General of the United States, has a short video message that includes steps we can take to support healthy blood pressure, including self-monitoring our blood pressure at home. We invite you to visit the National Hypertension Control Initiative website to learn more and access tools and resources supporting high blood pressure control.
As this year draws to a close, I will be retiring from federal service after 25 years in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. It has been my honor and privilege to serve alongside you in our pursuit of the elimination of racial, ethnic, and tribal health disparities. Please know that the HHS Office of Minority Health will remain unwavering in its commitment to identify policies, programs, and practices to address health disparities impacting racial and ethnic minority populations and American Indian and Alaska Native communities. There is still much work to do.
Happy holidays and best wishes for the year ahead,
Rear Admiral Felicia Collins, MD, MPH, FAAP
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health
Director, Office of Minority Health
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
