November is Native American Heritage Month!
Native American Heritage Month celebrates the richness of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures, traditions, and languages. It is also an opportunity to honor the legacy and stories of Tribal nations and Indigenous communities across the United States. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) is committed to working with public health and community-based partners to Be the Source for Better Health by providing AI/AN populations with resources and information that are responsive to their unique cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, economic and environmental circumstances, and health literacy levels.
Visit the OMH Native American Heritage Month webpage to learn more about social determinants of health (SDOH) and access shareable graphics, messaging, and resources to help improve AI/AN health.

Cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support investigator-initiated research to evaluate and examine effectiveness of strategies, programs, or policies for preventing polysubstance-impaired driving and associated crashes, nonfatal injuries, or deaths
Deadline is December 2.
Grants to Support New Investigators in Conducting Research Related to Preventing Interpersonal Violence Impacting Children and Youth
Grant from CDC supports an intensive, supervised career development experience in violence prevention research leading to research independence. Research priorities include: cross-cutting violence prevention; adverse childhood experiences; child abuse and neglect; youth violence; intimate partner violence (including teen dating violence); and sexual violence.
Deadline is December 2.
Seventh Generation Fund
Grants from the Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples, Inc. supporting tribal serving organizations working in the areas of traditional foodways (Community Vitality), basic and urgent health (Flicker Fund), ecological justice (Land, Water and Climate), and women’s health (Thriving Women).
Deadline is December 2.

Formative Research of Community-led Primary Prevention Approaches to Address Elevated Risk of Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence
Cooperative agreement from CDC to build the evidence base for the prevention of intimate partner violence, including teen dating violence, and/or sexual violence, in communities experiencing elevated risks, including but not limited to racial/ethnic minority groups, sexual and gender minority groups, and people with disabilities.
Deadline is December 2.
Rigorous Evaluation of Primary and Secondary Overdose Prevention Activities Among Populations Disproportionately Affected by Overdose
Grant from CDC to support research focused on people experiencing disproportionate burden of drug overdose, those who are at greater risk of exposure to drug use, or those experiencing adverse drug use outcomes related to social determinants of health.
Deadline is December 2
National Library of Medicine Information Resource Grants to Reduce Health Disparities and Promote Health Equity
Grants from the National Institutes of Health to support projects that will provide accurate, useful, usable, and understandable health information to populations that experience health disparities and their health care providers.
Deadline is December 13.

2024 CHARTBOOK: Supporting Native Elders in Their Communities
Native American Aging Programs funded by Title VI of the Older Americans Act play a critical role in supporting the health, wellness, and social engagement needs of AI/AN and Native Hawaiian elders and caregivers.
The 2024 Chartbook: Supporting Native Elders in Their Communities: Title VI Native American Aging Programs and Services provides key findings from the 2023 Title VI Native American Aging Program Survey. The survey posed questions about the Title VI program and about the services and supports available to elders within grantees’ communities. It covers service provision, nutrition and traditional foods, services and supports for kinship caregivers, and more.

Vaping Conversation Guide
This guide from the American Lung Association was developed in partnership with child psychologists and includes best practices for how to have the most effective conversation with kids about vaping. Use the tips and suggestions from the guide as a framework for having a productive conversation to help maintain an open line of communication with your kids about the impacts of vaping.

Opioid and Pain Treatment in Indigenous Communities Trial
This study, sponsored by the University of New Mexico in collaboration with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), seeks to examine the implementation process of culturally tailoring screening and brief intervention for both chronic pain and opioid misuse/opioid use disorder in three AI/AN serving clinics. This study will take place in Arcata, California.
Family-Based Financial Incentives Intervention for Smoking Cessation
This study, sponsored by the Mayo Clinic in collaboration with NIDA, will conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a family-based incentive intervention with AI/AN families. This study will take place in Anchorage, Alaska.

Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO)
The Intramural National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Research Opportunities (INRO) program, which promotes biomedical research training in allergic, immunologic, or infectious diseases, invites applications from senior-level undergraduate students, those who have recently completed a master’s degree, or those who are in their final year of a master’s degree program. Fellows gain biomedical research experience through a cohort-modeled postbaccalaureate program under the mentorship and support of NIAID scientists.

Strengthening Emergency Preparedness: Supporting Survivors of IPV, Human Trafficking, and Exploitation
This four part learning collaborative from Health Partners on IPV + Exploitation, Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, and National Health Care for the Homeless Council focuses on integrating the needs of survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), human trafficking, and exploitation into emergency preparedness efforts for health centers and their partners.
