World Stroke Day is October 29

World Stroke Day

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the risk of having a first stroke is twice as high for non-Hispanic Black adults than for White adults. World Stroke Day on October 29th provides an annual focal point for stroke awareness activities around the world. This year, World Stroke Organization is channeling the emotional power of sports to drive stroke awareness and to motivate us all to take action every day to reduce stroke risk. Learn more about stroke prevalence and join the #GreaterThan Challenge to help raise awareness and prevent stroke.

Workforce Toolkit to Support Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Providers

Flex

Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) face unique difficulties in maintaining their workforce due to limited institutional resources, high turnover, and a shortage of essential support services like childcare and housing in rural areas. To help CAHs and other rural providers enhance their workforce efforts, the Flex Monitoring Team created this toolkit, which provides background information on health care workforce challenges in the United States and describes common workforce challenges faced by CAHs. It provides examples of external resources that CAHs across the country may use to address their own workforce needs.

This study, sponsored by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, will evaluate how social and lifestyle factors affect the risk of mental impairment after a stroke. This study will take place in Bethesda, Maryland.

teleABLE to Reduce Post-Stroke Sedentary Behavior

This study, sponsored by the University of Minnesota in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, will test whether a remotely delivered behavioral activation-based intervention called "teleABLE" works better than a traditional health education intervention for reducing sitting time and improving health-related quality among adults who were diagnosed with stroke within the past 12 months. This study will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The collection covers topics such as disparities in stroke prevalence, digital health intervention to prevent stroke in diverse communities, food insecurity in stroke survivors, and more.
