Translational Resource Centers to Build Bridges Between Substance Use Epidemiology/Etiology and Prevention Intervention Research
Cooperative agreement from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to facilitate the formation and maintenance of multidisciplinary research teams ready to use epidemiological and/or etiological datasets and analyses to answer substance use prevention research questions and apply findings to intervention development or implementation. Deadline is November 13.
Effect of HIV and Substance Use Comorbidity on the Placenta and Maternal Outcomes
Grant from the NIH to support research examining the effect of HIV and/or anti-retroviral therapy on the growth, development, and functioning of the placenta in pregnant individuals with substance use/misuse, the impact of placental abnormalities on maternal outcomes, and the underlying mechanisms. Deadline is November 15.
Developing Digital Therapeutics for Substance Use Disorders
Cooperative agreement from the NIH to accelerate the development of U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized Digital Therapeutics (DTx) to treat substance use disorders. Deadline is November 19.

Region 4 Engagement and Outreach Award
Grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine to build partnerships and collaborations with local community groups and other key groups. Applications should demonstrate how their project will reach underserved populations with health information outreach projects, use community-led approaches to increase access to health information by working through libraries, and support specific Region 4 Core Aims. Deadline is November 15.
Research Centers in Minority Institutions
Cooperative agreement from the NIH to expand the national capacity for research in the health sciences by supporting institutions that offer doctorate degrees in the health profession, or in a health-related science, and have a documented historical mission and commitment to educating underrepresented students, and for institutions that provide clinical services to medically underserved communities. Deadline is November 18.
Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program
Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to benefit disadvantaged communities through projects that reduce pollution, increase community climate resilience, and build community capacity to address environmental and climate justice challenges. Deadline is November 21.

Observance: National Women's Blood Pressure Awareness Week
October 13–19 is National Women’s Blood Pressure Awareness Week (NWBPAW). Led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office on Women’s Health (OWH), NWBPAW works to improve women’s health outcomes related to high blood pressure. The 2024 theme, Empower Every Era: Blood Pressure Control Across the Lifespan, emphasizes the importance of monitoring and controlling blood pressure across every stage of life and addressing the unique health challenges that many women face from young adulthood to menopause and beyond. Connected and Strong Compendium: 10 Technical Assistance Briefs to Foster Unity and Strengthen Continuity Across Crisis Response and Treatment Systems
This series of ten papers from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration focuses on various challenges in implementing a connected, strong, comprehensive, and effective behavioral health crisis services system nationwide that is accessible to all. The papers lay out recommendations and highlight specific strategies to connect the oftentimes fragmented crisis care system and strengthen America’s approach to providing behavioral healthcare.

Health Without Barriers/Salud Sin Barreras
This study, sponsored by Colorado State University in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is tailoring and delivering a family-based lifestyle and stress management intervention, Health Without Barriers/Salud Sin Barreras, for adolescents and their families living in rural Southwest Colorado. The intervention addresses healthy lifestyle habits within the family context to support adolescent mental health and healthy weight. This study will take place in Durango, Colorado.
MENTOR Wellness Program
This study, sponsored by New York University Langone Health in collaboration with the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, aims to determine the effectiveness of a virtual wellness intervention program in individuals with traumatic brain injury and will also provide insights into the impact of intervention components for helping emotional, physical, and nutritional outcomes post-injury in the context of social determinants of health. This study will take place in New York, New York.

Bridging Gaps in Language Access and Cultural Competency for Indigenous Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers Learning Collaborative
The National Center for Farmworker Health, Inc. Learning Collaborative is designed to strengthen language access and cultural competency for Indigenous migrant and seasonal farmworkers. This series will highlight Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS), explore effective strategies for developing language access programs, and provide hands-on experience and best practices to create culturally and linguistically appropriate health education materials.
Public Health Learning Forum: Workforce Development in Action
This year’s virtual Public Health Learning Forums sessions hosted by Public Health Foundation focus on Workforce Development in Action. Sessions will explore training and tools that support public health workforce development and building governmental public health workforce capacity. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in sessions covering topics such as organizational culture, the core competencies for public health professionals, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, and more.

This toolkit from the Duke University Margolis Center for Health Policy is designed for health educators. It gives an overview of health equity, as well as instructions on incorporating health equity principles into curricula and evaluating courses.
