Universal Symbol for Language Assistance Services in Health Settings Survey

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is currently researching new ways to communicate the availability of language assistance services to individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) in health care settings. This research has led to the development of multiple graphic symbols to inform LEP individuals of these services.

OMH has released a survey to collect input from the public on the usability and effectiveness of these symbols. We welcome all input from the public, especially individuals whose primary/preferred language is not English, and encourage you to share this announcement with your networks.

The survey is open through September 22, 2024, and is available in nine languages:

  • English
  • Arabic - عربي
  • Chinese Traditional - 中國傳統的
  • Chinese Simplified - 简体中文
  • French - Français
  • Korean - 한국인
  • Spanish - Español
  • Tagalog
  • Vietnamese - Tiếng Việt

The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will provide us with invaluable insights that will guide the continued development of a universal symbol informing LEP individuals about the availability of services in their preferred language.

More information on this project and other OMH language access priorities is available on the OMH website.
