September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month
National Sickle Cell Awareness Month serves as a time to promote awareness and education about sickle cell disease (SCD), reduce misinformation and stigmatization associated with the condition, and draw attention to the ongoing need for research, better patient care, new treatments, and widely available cures.
Since 2018, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Cure Sickle Cell Initiative has accelerated promising genetic therapies to cure SCD, helped advance research, and brought together the SCD community—patients, advocates, caregivers, providers, researchers, industry, and others.
Visit the NHLBI Sickle Cell Disease website for more information, patient resources, shareable graphics, and social media messaging.
The 2024 Sickle Cell in Focus Conference will be held in-person in Kingston, Jamaica, and virtually September 19–20, at 9:00 a.m. ET.
