Immunization Awareness Month

National Immunization Awareness Month is an annual observance that highlights the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. Together, we can help raise awareness about the importance of vaccination and encourage people to talk to a healthcare provider they trust about staying up to date on their vaccinations.

The toolkit from the So’oh-Shinálí Sister Project is developed for educators, therapists, staff of diverse community organizations, and other wellness providers interested in learning more about intentionally supporting Indigenous individuals and communities. This toolkit includes four sections on myths and stereotypes regarding the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) community, tools to identify implicit bias and privilege, psychosocial struggles specific to the AI/AN community, and meaningful outreach and engagement interventions and techniques.

This study, sponsored by Wake Forest University Health Sciences in collaboration with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, aims to better understand the social, ethical, and behavioral implications of COVID-19 testing and vaccination and to refine and test a culturally congruent intervention that integrates peer navigation and mobile health to increase COVID-19 testing and vaccination within Spanish-speaking Latinx communities. This study will take place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In observance of National Immunization Awareness Month, the OMH Knowledge Center is sharing Maternal Immunization: Quick Guide. This guide from the Society for Women’s Health Research provides a brief outline on different vaccination recommendations for pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. The recommended vaccine schedules come from CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
