OMH 2024 Language Access Plan

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) has released its 2024-2026 Language Access Plan that outlines strategies to advance language access in our policies, programs, and operations. Read the plan to learn more about OMH’s commitment to facilitating meaningful access to resources for persons with limited English proficiency (LEP). Check out the 2023 HHS Language Access Plan to learn about broader departmental efforts to support individuals and communities with LEP, and access LEP resources in multiple languages.

National Minority Donor Awareness Month is a collaborative initiative of the National Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation Multicultural Action Group to save and improve the quality of life of diverse communities by creating a positive culture for organ, eye, and tissue donation.

National Minority Donor Awareness Month brings heightened awareness to donation and transplantation in multicultural communities – focusing primarily on African American, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native American communities.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Planning Grants

Cooperative agreement from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to support states in developing and implementing certification systems for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), establish Prospective Payment Systems for Medicaid reimbursable behavioral health services, and prepare an application to participate in a four-year CCBHC Demonstration program.
Deadline is September 12.

A Trial of Transplanting Hepatitis C Kidneys Into Hepatitis C-Negative Kidney Recipients

This study, sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with NIDDK, will compare the survival rate of patients opting-in for offers of kidneys from hepatitis C virus infected donors compared to the survival rate of matched candidates from the kidney transplant waitlist who did not consent to receive offers of a hepatitis C virus infected kidneys. This study will take place in Birmingham, Alabama.

This week, in observance of National Minority Donor Awareness Month, the OMH Knowledge Center is featuring Issue at a Glance: Racial Disparities in Kidney Transplants. This brief from the Institute for Health Policy and Leadership discusses racial inequalities in kidney transplant rates and policies that have aimed to improve these disparities. Additionally, it explores how African American donors' kidneys have a higher discard rate due to a race-specific coefficient in the Kidney Donor Risk Index.
