July 28 is World Hepatitis Day

Viral hepatitis affects more than 300 million people worldwide and leads to more than 1.3 million deaths each year. Despite effective vaccines, prevention strategies, and medications, deaths from hepatitis are increasing globally. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and other organizations around the world recognize World Hepatitis Day by raising awareness about viral hepatitis, the burdens people with hepatitis face, ongoing work to combat viral hepatitis across the globe, and actions people can take to prevent future transmission.

Health of Women of U3 Populations Data Book

U3 Pupulations Data Book

The fifth edition of the Health of Women of U3 Populations Data Book from the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health highlights the current state of knowledge on the health of understudied, underrepresented, and underreported (U3) women, including the ways that social and structural drivers perpetuate health disparities. The Data Book uses an intersectional lens to explore data from national surveys and vital statistics on priority health issues with respect to race and ethnicity as well as rurality, economic status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. It offers an opportunity for scientists interested in health equity research to consider some of the limitations and opportunities available for national-level data to reflect the health status of women from a multidimensional and gendered perspective.

This study, sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco in collaboration with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, will assess the efficacy and mechanism of action of the first behavioral intervention to increase hepatitis C treatment initiation among adult people who inject drugs. This study will take place in San Francisco, California.

Linkage to Care for Persons with Hepatitis C Infection

This study, sponsored by the Carilion Clinic in collaboration with the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, will identify perceived barriers to completion of Hepatitis C treatment by patients and providers, pilot simple solutions to known basic social problems affecting communication and access to Hepatitis C care, and identify other system-based interventions to address barriers to treatment. This study will take place in Roanoke, Virginia.
