Be the #SourceForBetterHealth for Men Q&A
In honor of Men’s Health Month, OMH will conduct a week-long Q & A session with federal partners on our Instagram Stories focused on health disparities and health conditions experienced by racial and ethnic minority and AI/AN men, including how their well-being is impacted by the syphilis epidemic. Each day, OMH will ask a question related to these health topics and share answers and resources provided by our federal partners.

Share Your Insights with OMH: Development of Public Health Vaccine and Prevention Educational Campaigns Involving Community Health Workers
OMH has recently released a Request for Information (RFI) looking for insights from community health workers (CHWs). Please respond to and/or share these two new opportunities to help OMH better understand the needs of the populations it serves.
Through this RFI, OMH seeks to obtain information from CHWs, recipients of CHW services, and organizations representing and/or communities using CHWs to guide the development of an educational campaign focused on increasing the cultural and linguistic competency efforts related to public health vaccines (e.g., influenza and COVID) and other prevention strategies. Closing Date is July 11, 2024.

Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will support projects that stimulate innovation and advance understanding of when, where and how best to implement the use and sharing of genomic information and technologies in clinical care in all persons including populations or communities that experience health disparities. Addressing Dementia in Indian Country: Enhancing Sustainable Models of Care
Cooperative agreement from the Indian Health Service to increase local clinical capacity for culturally relevant dementia care and services for American Indian and Alaska Native people living with dementia, their caregivers, and their communities. Deadline is July 16.
Health Access Grants
Grants from the Virginia Health Care Foundation to increase access to healthcare for uninsured Virginians and those who live in areas with limited access to care. Concept Papers due on July 17.

Rural Maternal Health Data Support and Analysis Program
Grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration for one entity to provide data support to rural maternal health care networks to assist them in their efforts to improve maternal health care at the community- and regional-levels. Deadline is July 15.
Community Economic Development Projects
Grant from the Administration for Children and Families provides funding to community development corporations for well-planned, financially viable, and innovative projects to enhance job creation and business development for individuals with low income. Deadline is July 17
Fiscal Year 2024 Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program
Grant from the Department of Homeland Security provides funding to close known capability gaps, encourage innovative regional solutions to issues related to catastrophic incidents, and build on existing regional preparedness efforts. Deadline is July 25.

Observance: June is 19 is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day
World Sickle Cell Day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease (SCD), and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.
This World Sickle Cell Day, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is supporting young families by raising awareness of SCD and sharing information to help women with SCD stay healthy throughout pregnancy. SCD can have a significant impact on a woman's reproductive health. For some women with SCD, pregnancy can make their disease more severe and treatments may need to be changed to help manage their complications.

New Resource on Informed Consent Language for Digital Health Studies
From a trans-National Institutes of Health working group, the guide provides points to consider and sample language for informed consent for research using digital health technologies. The resource guide offers an introduction to the importance of informed consent surrounding digital health technologies, instructions for how to use the resource, and sample language for various stages of your study.

Report: Community Health Center Strategies for Diabetes Prevention for Asian Americans
This report from the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations outlines specific considerations, context, and strategies for improving diabetes prevention among Asian American patients in community health centers. The resources, tools, and promising practices in this report come from health center participants and guest speakers from three consecutive learning collaboratives between 2021 and 2023.

Mindfulness for African Americans Postpartum
This study, sponsored by the Loyola University in collaboration with the National Institute of Nursing Research, will compare an 8-week Mindfulness for African Americans Postpartum (MAAP) intervention to an 8-week Educational Program (active comparison group). This study will take place in Maywood, Illinois.
MoVE Trial: Motivational Strategies to Empower African Americans to Improve Dialysis Adherence
This study, sponsored by the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in collaboration with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, will test the impact of a culturally tailored behavioral intervention delivered by trained health coaches on non-adherence to hemodialysis treatment. This study will take place in Nashville, Tennessee.

Cardiovascular Research Training Program
The Wilf Family Cardiovascular Research Institute of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine seeks applications from individuals who aspire to careers in cardiovascular research and discovery for a postdoctoral training position. Areas of interest include cardiac injury/remodeling, brain regulation of metabolism and blood pressure, cardiovascular development, cardiovascular epidemiology, and more. Deadline for application is June 30.
Caring for LGBTQI+ Patients
The Medicare Learning Network offers free, self-paced learning on a broad range of topics for health care providers. The Caring for LGBTQI Patients course helps providers learn sexual orientation and gender identity terminology and understand health disparities in the LGBTQI+ community.

This week, the OMH Knowledge Center is featuring Psychological Factors That Contribute to the Dearth of Black Students in Science, Engineering, and Medicine: Proceedings of a Workshop. This book from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine summarizes the proceedings of a virtual workshop held by the Roundtable on Black Men and Black Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine that focused on psychological factors and other challenges that create barriers to Black representation in science, engineering, and medicine fields.
