Celebrate National Men’s Health Week and Wear Blue Day

Men’s Health Week

Men’s Health Week (June 10–16) is celebrated each year during Men’s Health Month to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. Wear Blue Day on June 14 is used to raise awareness about the importance of male health and to encourage men to live longer and healthier lives.

LGBTQI+ Pride Month

Join OMH and HHS in advancing health equity for LGBTQI+ people and families and preventing discrimination against LGBTQI+ people. Learn more about the Healthy People 2030 LGBT objectives which aim to improve the health, safety, and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Share Your Insights with OMH: Development of Public Health Vaccine and Prevention Educational Campaigns Involving Community Health Workers

OMH has recently released a Request for Information (RFI) looking for insights from community health workers (CHWs). Please respond to and/or share these two new opportunities to help OMH better understand the needs of the populations it serves.

Through this RFI, OMH seeks to obtain information from CHWs, recipients of CHW services, and organizations representing and/or communities using CHWs to guide the development of an educational campaign focused on increasing the cultural and linguistic competency efforts related to public health vaccines (e.g., influenza and COVID) and other prevention strategies.
Closing Date is July 11, 2024.

June 13–19 is National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week

National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week

Project Community at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Oncology Center of Excellence began its National Black Family Cancer Awareness initiative in 2021 as a week-long social media campaign to increase cancer awareness in one of the most vulnerable segments of the U.S. population. The National Black Family Cancer Awareness initiative encourages community-based stakeholders to build knowledge surrounding cancer clinical trial participation and minority population specimen donations to national genomic databases for cancer research.

Behavioral Exercise Training to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease Risk

This study, sponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, will test the preliminary effectiveness of a home-based exercise training intervention to improve exercise capacity among prostate cancer patients compared to controls receiving healthy living education at 12 weeks. This study will take place in Richmond, Virginia.

Developing an Online Mindfulness-based Intervention to Reduce Minority Stress and HIV Risk Among Young Adult Men who have Sex with Men

HRSA Faculty Loan Repayment Program

The Faculty Loan Repayment Program from HRSA provides eligible faculty members financial assistance to repay their qualifying educational loans in exchange for service at an eligible health professions school. Applicants must come from a disadvantaged background, have an eligible health professions degree or certificate, and be a faculty member at an approved health professions school.
Deadline for application is June 27, by 7:30 p.m. ET.
