June is Men’s Health Month!
This annual observance encourages men and boys to be proactive in their health by implementing healthy living decisions. This year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) is focusing on improving health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) men through its theme, Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections.
This theme calls on each of us to better understand how the unique environments, cultures, histories, and circumstances (known as social determinants of health, or SDOH) of racial and ethnic minority and AI/AN men impact their overall health.

Consortium for Palliative Care Research Across the Lifespan
Cooperative agreement from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support a consortium that provides resources, expertise, and coordination to advance innovative, high-quality research on palliative care for those with serious illness across the lifespan.

Grants from the National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) Foundation for projects that advance the evidence-base in areas such as health care financing, affordability, delivery, management and/or policy.

Housing-Related Hazards and Lead-Based Paint Capital Fund Program
Grant agreement from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to evaluate and reduce residential health hazards in public housing, including lead-based paint, carbon monoxide, mold, radon, fire safety, and asbestos.

Using Innovative Digital Healthcare Solutions to Improve Quality at the Point of Care
Grant from the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality supporting research projects that test promising digital healthcare interventions aimed at improving quality of care and healthcare services delivery at the point of care.

New Resource to Connect People Returning to the Community to Health Care Services
The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Minority Health have joined together to release a new Coverage to Care (C2C) resource to support individuals upon release and re-entering the community to connect to health coverage and health services. The guide contains information to help individuals connect to health care services pre- and post-release, learn about insurance coverage types and how to apply, and tips to get started using health coverage to receive needed services to support a successful reentry and healthy life. It is available in English and Spanish.

Tribal Elder Protection Team Toolkit
The Tribal Elder Protection Team Toolkit from the Native American Elder Justice Initiative helps identify and implement a tribal Elder protection team. The team provides assistance to their clients to promote coordination among service programs available to tribal Elders and improve lines of communication to efficiently address Elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

This study, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, will test an imaging technology called multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) for detecting prostate cancer in men of African ancestry. This study will take place in Bethesda, Maryland.
Skills-Based Educational Strategies for Reduction of Vascular Events in Orange County
This study, sponsored by the University of California, Irvine in collaboration with the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, aims to evaluate the efficacy of a culturally tailored, skills-based, cardiovascular health (CVH) intervention amongst a cohort of Latinx and Vietnamese families. This study will take place in Irvine, California.

Cervical Cancer ECHO Learning Series for Safety-Net Settings in US-Affiliated Pacific Islands (CERV-Net USAPI)
CERV-Net USAPI is a free, virtual, collaborative learning series that prepares and empowers safety-net settings of care to engage partners, patients, and communities to ultimately improve cervical cancer care across the cancer continuum. Two or three participants from each organization will attend online meetings, deliver one case presentation, and complete evaluation surveys.

Cultural Considerations for People at Risk for Suicide
This knowledge-based virtual presentation for interprofessional healthcare teams is focused on the need for staff to be aware of their own biases when providing care to veterans, especially those at risk for suicide. This presentation aims to fill a knowledge gap by reviewing cultural characteristics and competency skills that provide inclusive, mindful, equal, and equitable care to better serve these veterans.
