AANHPI Resource Guides Now Available in AANHPI Languages
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) has released a set of newly translated resource guides providing guidance on best practices to advance cultural competency, language access, and sensitivity toward Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities in the context of the federal COVID-19 response.
This set of guides was developed in accordance with the Presidential Memorandum Condemning and Combating Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The set includes an introductory document and three guides that are now available in English, Chinese (Simplified), Hawaiian, Korean, Marshallese, Samoan, and Vietnamese.

May is Lupus Awareness Month
Lupus Awareness Month, led by the Lupus Foundation of America, is an annual observance to raise awareness of the physical, emotional, and economic impact of lupus.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that has a disproportionate impact on racial and ethnic minority populations. The Let’s Take Charge! Campaign, created by OMH and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (FDA OMHHE), highlights the importance of racial and ethnic minority participation in clinical trials so that lupus research is more inclusive and diverse.

Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to demonstrate and enhance the utility of selected Common Fund data sets, including generating hypotheses and catalyzing discoveries.
Deadline is June 27.
Tribal Opioid Response
Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to assist in addressing the opioid overdose crisis in Tribal communities by increasing access to FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder, and supporting the continuum of prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid use disorder and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Deadline is July 1.
Understanding the Intersection of Social Inequities to Optimize Health and Reduce Health Disparities: The Axes Initiative
Grant from the NIH to support research to understand health at the intersections of social statuses such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and ability, by examining contributions of social and other determinants of health.
Deadline is July 5.

A Cultural Approach to Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country
Cooperative agreement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help fund organizations implementing chronic disease prevention, management, and control strategies within their community.
Deadline is June 28.
Cancer Immunoprevention Network Research Projects
Cooperative agreement from the NIH to support a deeper understanding of basic mechanisms of immunoprevention, discover novel immunoprevention strategies, and foster a community of cancer immunoprevention researchers.
Deadline July 3.
Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) Planning Grants
Grant from the NIH to support eligible American Indian/Alaska Native Tribal entities to plan and conduct preparatory work for developing competitive NARCH applications.

Health Equity Data Definitions, Standards, and Stratification
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health (CMS OMH) has released a new resource of health equity-related data definitions, standards, and stratification practices. This resource offers a table of suggested definitions, standards, and stratification practices for nine health equity-related data elements as well as several Frequently Asked Questions on the purpose and usage of the document. It also clarifies differences in results that may arise when different data standards and definitions are used. Providers, states, community organizations, researchers, and others collecting and/or stratifying their health equity-related data can make use of this resource to align with CMS.

Healthy Romantic Relationships and Youth Well-being: A Review
Activate: The Center to Bring Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Research to Youth-Supporting Professionals supports the HHS Office of Population Affairs’ mission to promote adolescent health and prevent teen pregnancy by bridging the gap between research and practice. In this resource, the authors summarize research and practice literature, provide practice guidance, and describe cultural considerations (e.g., religion, immigration status, and ethnic backgrounds) associated with three key domains of healthy romantic relationships involving young people: communication, boundaries/limits, and shared power.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Gullah Health
This study, sponsored by the Medical University of South Carolina in collaboration with the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), will test whether there are specific genetic factors that interact with environmental exposures leading to the development of lupus. This study will take place in Charleston, South Carolina.
Engagement in Childhood-Onset Systemic Lupus
This study, sponsored by the Montefiore Medical Center in collaboration with NIAMS, will assess how depression symptoms may contribute to how well adolescent and young adults with lupus follow-up with their lupus clinical care. This study will take place in the Bronx, New York.

Implicit Bias in Medicine: Cardiology
The Implicit Bias in Cardiology training from the Wellness and Equity Alliance will help participants identify the role that implicit bias can play in identification of stroke and other diseases, assess how implicit bias in individuals and care teams can affect care teams, and discuss how it can affect care choices.
Continuing education credit is available.
Understanding Lupus
Understanding Lupus is a bilingual training program from The Lupus Initiative that aims to increase promotores’ understanding of the signs and symptoms of lupus so that they can effectively raise lupus awareness in their communities. The curriculum will give participants the skills to describe lupus signs and symptoms, raise lupus awareness in their communities, identify and help clients overcome barriers to diagnosis, and more.

This toolkit from the Society for Women's Health Research provides easy-to-understand information on lupus in women. It includes general definitions, information on the diagnosis and management of lupus, and wellness tips, as well as a list of lupus support organizations and a lupus care journal.
