Meeting of the Advisory Committee on Minority Health
On February 13-14, the Advisory Committee on Minority Health (ACMH) will have a meeting focusing on the implementation of the anticipated updates to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) federal race and ethnicity data collection standards. Pre-registration is required for the public to attend the meeting, provide comments, and/or distribute printed materials to ACMH members.
Members of the public must register for the meeting by January 30, at 5:00 p.m. ET by sending an email to OMH-ACMH@hhs.gov with the following information: name, affiliation, phone number, email address, days attending, and if participation is in-person or via webcast.
February 13-14, at 8:30 a.m. ET, in Rockville, Maryland.

Indigenous Food Sovereignty as a Path to Health Equity
The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) supports the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (CIIHE) to advance sustainable solutions to address health disparities and advance health equity among American Indian and Alaska Native (Al/AN) and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) populations. In this focus issue of Health Promotion Practice, Valarie Blue Bird Jernigan, DrPH, MPH, from the CIIHE, presents a collection of articles describing the genealogy of the CIIHE and the development and application of a food sovereignty conceptual framework for health. The articles are the result of a partnership, coordinated through OMH, between Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and the University of Hawai’i.

Cooperative Newborn Screening System Priorities Program
Cooperative agreement from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to strengthen the newborn screening system to provide screening, counseling, and health care services to newborns and children with, or at risk for, heritable disorders and help them achieve the best possible outcomes.
Deadline is February 23, by 11:59 p.m. ET.
National Coordinating Center on Transition
Cooperative agreement from the HRSA to develop and advance national, state, and local/community-level frameworks that support successful transition from child to adult serving systems for youth with autism and/or epilepsy who have complex health and social needs and require a higher level of family support and coordination.
Deadline is March 11, by 11:59 p.m. ET.

Strategic Prevention Framework and Partnerships for Success for States
Grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will support projects that build and expand the capacity of local community prevention providers using evidence-based programs to help reduce the onset and progression of substance misuse.
Deadline is February 21, by 11:59 p.m. ET.
FentAlert: Empowering Youth for Safer Choices
Challenge grant from the SAMHSA seeks ideas from youth aged 14-18 on a community strategy to increase youth awareness, education, and prevention around the dangers of fentanyl, especially the hidden dangers of fake pills and other contaminants that can lead to drug overdose deaths.
Deadline is February 26, by 6:00 p.m. ET.
Career Enhancement Award to Advance Research on Firearm Injury and Mortality Prevention
Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support experienced investigators seeking to redirect or expand their research programs through the acquisition of new skills and knowledge in firearm mortality and injury prevention research.
Deadline is March 15.

Updated: Coverage to Care Resources
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released updated materials under their Coverage to Care (C2C) Initiative that helps consumers understand their health coverage and connect to preventive care services. The updated Manage Your Chronic Condition provides guidance on how chronic care management through Medicare can help consumers better manage their care and receive personal attention and help from a provider.

SmokefreeNATIVE Text Messaging Program
In alignment with the #BidenCancerMoonshot, the National Cancer Institute’s Smokefree.gov Initiative has launched SmokefreeNATIVE, a free text messaging program created by and for American Indians and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people to help them quit using commercial tobacco while honoring the significance of traditional tobacco. While sacred tobacco is important in many Native cultures for prayer, healing, and ceremony, commercial tobacco is harmful. SmokefreeNATIVE was developed with the Indian Health Service (IHS) to offer a culturally aligned, digital resource to improve access to evidence-based smoking cessation support.

Prevention of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Hispanic Children
This study, sponsored by the Emory University in collaboration with the National Institute of Nursing Research, will determine if following a diet very low in free sugars just before puberty, a time of increased metabolic disruption, can help to prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in children known to be at high risk. This study will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Healthy Diet and Lifestyle Study II
This study, sponsored by the University of Hawaii in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will compare the use of intermittent energy restriction and daily energy restriction in reducing abdominal visceral and liver fat among East Asian, Native Hawaiian, and White study participants. This study will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Health Equity Fellowship for Trainees
The Health Equity Fellowship for Trainees is part of Health Affairs’ national initiative to advance equity in health policy and health services scholarly publishing. Fellows will receive mentorship from Health Affairs authors and editorial staff and gain insight on creating manuscript submissions that are more likely to be accepted by the journal or another journal within the fellowship.
Deadline for application is February 15.
SFARI Supplement to Enhance Equity and Diversity
The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) Supplement to Enhance Equity and Diversity provides supplements to existing grants for the recruitment of new lab members from underrepresented minority groups at the postdoctoral level. For the purposes of this supplement, eligible groups include the following: African American/Black; Latin American/Hispanic; Native American/Alaskan Native; Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander.
Applications accepted on rolling basis until funds are exhausted.
