The holiday season can be filled with joy and celebrations and can also trigger difficult emotions—which can affect your mental health and use of substances. Let your friends, family, and communities know that confidential support is available 24/7 for both mental health and substance use from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Use social media post copy and accompanying visuals from SAMHSA to share information. Topics include:

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, rural residents tend to be older and in poorer health than their urban counterparts. The 2023 Rural-Urban Disparities in Health Care in Medicare report provides information on the quality of health care received by people with Medicare nationwide. The report highlights rural-urban differences in health care experiences and clinical care, how rural-urban differences in quality of care vary by race and ethnicity, and how racial and ethnic differences in quality of care vary between rural and urban areas.

The Ohiyesa Premedical Program

This yearlong program supports 8 American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) students at Tribal and/or community colleges interested in pursuing a healthcare career, with a program focus on the physician pathway. Participants will participate in interactive workshops practicing simulation based procedural skills, workshops delineating the roadmap to successfully applying to medical school, and faculty mentorship.

This booklet, published by the National Institute on Aging, is geared toward helping older adults develop healthy exercise habits. It is designed for all activity levels and abilities, and it features worksheets where readers can outline and track their physical activity goals.  The booklet stresses the importance of four types of exercise (endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility), especially as our bodies age. It’s never too late to get moving!
