Approaching Deadline for OMH's Healthy Families Community-Based Perinatal Health Initiative: July 18
The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is seeking applications for projects funded under the Healthy Families Community-Based Perinatal Health Initiative to develop innovative models for integrating community-based maternal support services into perinatal systems of care.
Community-based maternal support services are social and supportive services that address social determinants of health, such as health literacy; pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting education; cultural and linguistic diversity; exposure to trauma; housing, food, and transportation. While the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to decrease, at least 10 percent of individuals may experience one or more symptoms of Long COVID. Primary care providers can benefit from greater familiarity with Long COVID and with its mental health conditions and related symptoms.
This Identification and Management of Mental Health Symptoms and Conditions Associated with Long COVID advisory from SAMHSA discusses the mental health conditions associated with Long COVID, how social determinants of health contribute to the negative impact of COVID-19 and Long COVID on racial and ethnic minority populations, individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and individuals who are LGBTQI+, and evidence-based resources to treat the mental health symptoms of Long COVID.

Anti-Stigma Toolkit: A Guide to Reducing Behavioral Health Disorder Stigma
The Central East Mental Health Technology Transfer Center published the Anti-Stigma Toolkit: A Guide to Reducing Behavioral Health Disorder Stigma. The toolkit provides practical information and tools to enhance capacity and engage in effective stigma reduction efforts for behavioral health prevention and treatment providers, recovery community organizations, and individuals in recovery.
These approaches include tips on using stigma-free, positive person-first language and writing letters to the editor. Some approaches are comprehensive, such as developing a community action group and implementing a community-based messaging and media campaign.
