National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the U.S.
The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is committed to advancing Better Mental Health Through Better Understanding by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health care services, information, and resources.

New OMH Funding Opportunity: Health Equity Leadership Development Initiative
OMH anticipates funding for the Health Equity Leadership Development Initiative to implement a fellowship program at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The fellowship will provide training in health equity issues and leadership to early career individuals to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority and other disadvantaged populations.
The initiative aims to address the gap in federal fellowship opportunities for individuals interested in working to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health through health policies, programs, and practices.

Report: Achieving Behavioral Health Care Integration in Rural America

The latest report from the Bipartisan Policy Center, Achieving Behavioral Health Care Integration in Rural America, provides policy recommendations that would expand integrated primary care and behavioral health services in rural communities, partially by leveraging Rural Health Clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers.

2023 U.S. Maternal Mental Health Risk and Resources Maps
The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health, with support from Plum Organics, has developed a first-of-its-kind map to shed light on the major gaps in the maternal mental health care provider workforce.
The Risk and Resources Maps illustrate where in the U.S. mothers are at the greatest risk for suffering from maternal mental health disorders and where the greatest need for providers and community-based organizations are.
Individuals can click on the map and drop a pin where they want to see more maternal mental health resources developed. For instructions on how to participate, watch the how-to video here.

Emotional Wellness Toolkit
Emotional wellness is the ability to successfully handle life’s stresses and adapt to change and difficult times. The NIH created the Emotional Wellness Toolkit to help users learn how to improve their emotional wellness in six areas. The cards cover how to build resilience, reduce stress, and other topics. They can be printed out to help distribute in your community.

Characterization and Treatment of Adolescent Depression
This study, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), intends to find causes and treatments of depression in teenagers, increase knowledge of treatments for depression, and understand how the brain changes when teenagers have depression. This study will be conducted in Bethesda, Maryland.
Navigation and Parent Peer Support to Promote Access
This study, sponsored by the University of Colorado, Denver in collaboration with NIMH, will support initial testing of the impact of Parent Peer Navigation on key caregiver and child outcomes for caregivers of children and youth with mental health challenges. This study will be conducted in Aurora, Colorado.

Addiction Medicine Fellowship
The Massachusetts General Hospital Addiction Medicine Fellowship will prepare physicians for clinical and academic careers in addiction medicine with a particular focus on developing and enhancing evidence-based addiction prevention and treatment services for all patients, including those vulnerable to health disparities because of poverty, race, culture, age, gender, disability, or stigma.
Virtual Learning Lab: Mental Health Resources
The Mental Health Resources Learning Lab from the Suicide Prevention Resource Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center will guide colleges and universities in assessing their capacity to address increased demands for mental health services from students and how to ensure that mental health resources are available and accessible to students in need.
