New: OMH Releases Best Practice Resource Guides on Advancing Equity for AA and NH/PI Communities in COVID-19 Response Efforts
New OMH Funding Opportunities
The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is dedicated to improving the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through the development of policies and programs that will help eliminate health disparities. Through grants and cooperative agreements, OMH supports the development and implementation of effective approaches for improving health outcomes with the goal of promoting the dissemination and sustainability of these approaches.
OMH has released the following notices of funding opportunities for which applications are now being accepted:

New: HHS Releases First-Ever STI Federal Implementation Plan
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently released the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Federal Implementation Plan. The Implementation Plan outlines federal actions supporting the priorities from the STI National Strategic Plan which set goals to prevent new STIs, reduce STI-related health disparities and health inequities, and more.
The selected actions highlight federal resources, capacity, and expertise to make an immediate and significant difference in the populations disproportionately affected by STIs: adolescents and young adults, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, pregnant women, and within each of these populations, certain racial and ethnic minorities.

Tribal Long-Term Service and Support National Resource Center
Cooperative agreement from the Administration for Community Living to fund a National Resource Center on American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian Long-Term Service and Support. The resource center will address the unmet needs of tribal-specific long-term service and support information and guidance. Deadline is July 17, by 11:59 p.m. ET.
Field-Initiated Approach to Addressing Racial Bias and Inequity in Child Welfare
Grant from the Administration for Children and Families to fund grants that support field-initiated approaches to addressing racial bias and inequity in child welfare and improving the safety, stability, and well-being of families in traditionally underserved communities. Deadline is July 31, by 11:59 p.m. ET.
Community Health Aide Program: Tribal Planning & Implementation
Grant from the Indian Health Service to support the planning and implementation of community health aide programs that provide community-specific health care for Tribes and Tribal Organizations. Deadline is August 1.

Pilot and Feasibility Trials on the Integration of Social and Medical Care for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Grant from the National Institutes of Health to support pilot and feasibility trials testing pragmatic interventions that include screening for adverse social determinants of health and referring or providing resource service linkages for social services within the healthcare setting for individuals living with type 1 diabetes. Deadline is July 20.
COVID-19 Health Equity and Immunization Funding Opportunity
Grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to support Colorado-based organizations working to reduce COVID-19 disparities among disproportionately affected populations. Deadline is July 31.
Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Competitive Grants: New Hampshire
Grant from the Administration for Children and Families to support the development and implementation of PREP projects that educate youth on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS. Deadline is August 2, by 11:59 p.m. ET.

The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey data show substantial health disparities that exist among sexual minority students, placing them at risk for negative health outcomes, including HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The National LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center specializes in providing national training and technical assistance to health centers in order to optimize access to quality health care for LGBTQIA+ populations and aims to eliminate health disparities for the LGBTQIA+ community. Health care providers can learn through webinars, publications, learning modules, and toolkits about topics relevant to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Volunteers Wanted: Sign up for the RECOVER Initiative
The National Institutes of Health launched the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative to learn about the long-term effects of COVID-19. Long COVID can affect anyone who has had COVID, even if they showed no symptoms at first.
The RECOVER Initiative seeks participants with and without COVID to help understand why and how Long COVID affects some people and not others. Health care providers and community leaders can share recruitment materials with community members for pediatric and adult recruitment.

Exploring Rural Health Podcast: Rural Healthy People 2030
The monthly Exploring Rural Health Podcast from the Rural Health Information Hub provides useful information about current issues facing rural healthcare and invites the individuals that are coming up with solutions in the areas of rural quality of care, access to programs, and more.
In the latest podcast episode, Dr. Timothy Callaghan, Ph.D. and Morgan Kassabian discuss Healthy People 2030 and the development of the Rural Healthy People 2030 Initiative from the Southwest Rural Health Research Center. The Initiative focuses on identifying the Healthy People priorities most important in rural communities.

Ending the HIV Epidemic with Equity: An Intervention to Reduce the Impact of Racism and Discrimination
This study, sponsored by Columbia University in collaboration with the National Institute of Nursing Research, will engage Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program funded organizations in the South/East U.S. to co-develop context-responsive programs to reduce structural racism and discrimination against Black, Indigenous, People of Color living with HIV and healthcare workers of color.
Lifestyle Intervention for the Reduction of Prostate Cancer Disparities Among African Americans
This study, sponsored by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, will study how well a lifestyle intervention works in reducing prostate cancer disparities among African American patients and their spouses or romantic partners. A lifestyle intervention may help researchers learn if social support can help African American prostate cancer patients and their partners improve their quality of life, physical activity, diet, and inflammation. This study will be conducted in Houston, Texas.

Indigenous Health Clinical Updates Course Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) Instructor and Provider Trainings
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Indigenous Health Program will teach participants how to recognize obstetric, neonatal, and gynecologic conditions and health problems and provide comprehensive and culturally appropriate patient care consistent with national guidelines. August 4-6, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
2024 Rural Health Fellows Program
The National Rural Health Association Rural Health Fellows Program aims to educate and develop a network of diverse rural leaders that will step forward to serve in key positions in the association, affiliated advocacy groups, and local and state legislative bodies with health equity as a main focus. Fellows will undergo intensive leadership and advocacy training, take part in monthly conference calls to supplement their training, and receive updates on legislative and regulatory concerns that impact rural health. Deadline for Application is September 14.

This document from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health discusses the benefits of youth sports and strategies to increase access to and participation in them. In addition, it highlights specific programs throughout the U.S. designed to engage vulnerable youth through sports participation.
