MHM Infographic

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) has released a new infographic providing health information on racial and ethnic minority, American Indian, and Alaska Native men, including their health behaviors, chronic conditions, and leading causes of death.

Apply Today: Pediatric Specialty Loan Repayment Program

HRSA Pediatric Behavioral Health

The new Pediatric Specialty Loan Repayment Program from the Health Resources and Services Administration aims to recruit and retain clinicians who provide pediatric medical subspecialty, pediatric surgical specialty, or child and adolescent behavioral health care, including substance use prevention and treatment services.

Clinicians can receive up to $100,000 in loan repayment and will work full-time for three years at an approved site in a health professional shortage area, medically underserved area, or providing care to a medically underserved population.

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day

HIV National Testing Day is june 27

Approximately 1 in 7 people with HIV don’t know they have it. Health care providers can use free resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help #ScreenForHIV in their practice and ensure every patient is tested for HIV, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, age, or ethnicity.

Visit the CDC website for additional resources, including the GetTested Tool, an online tool that helps individuals find free, local, and confidential HIV and STI testing.

Men's Health Checklist

As of 2018, the leading causes of death for men are heart disease and cancer. Living a healthy lifestyle and getting preventative health care can help lower the risk of heart disease and cancer in men.

This Men’s Health Month, share preventative care resources that can help men of any age navigate their next check-up. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Men’s Health Checklist provides a list of benefits covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance plans that can help men keep up to date with their health. Additionally, the CMS Coverage to Care Initiative offers a Men Preventive Services Flyer in English and seven other languages to help men navigate and take charge of their health.

AtlasPlus also provides access to indicators on social determinants of health allowing users to view social and economic data in conjunction with surveillance data for each disease.

HRSA Announces the Release of the Health Care and Service Delivery Site Dashboard

HRSA

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) launched the Health Care and Service Delivery Site Dashboard to provide visualization of data pertaining to the location of sites that deliver services funded by or participating in HRSA-related programs by state and county.

The tool provides visibility into the distribution of health care services and helps HRSA enhance program outreach and impact across the country to improve access to health care. The dashboard is intended to strengthen and promote innovation, data sharing, accountability, and equity, making more health data information available to the public on the meaningful programs HRSA supports.

This study, sponsored by Yale University in collaboration with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, will assess the efficacy of an LGBTQ-affirmative cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy in reducing heavy drinking and mental health symptoms. This study will be conducted in New York, New York.

African American Families Fighting Parental Cancer Together

This study, sponsored by the University of Delaware, will test the usefulness of a family-based program for African American parents/primary caregivers with newly diagnosed solid tumor cancer and their adolescent children. The program is designed to promote family communication and reduce depressive symptoms for adolescent children. This study will be conducted in Newark, Delaware.
