In honor of National Minority Health Month, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society partnered with the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH), to present part of the Ask an MS Expert webinar series, featuring presentations from experts in MS care, and a Q&A session for those living with MS.
This month, the Director of Mount Sinai’s Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for MS Dr. Katz Sand, and OMH Director RDML Felicia Collins, MD, MPH discussed the impact of diet and nutrition on MS and the latest research in this important part of health.

April 24-30 is World Immunization Week
From 2010 to 2016, Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, and non-Hispanic Asian children were less likely to receive the combined 7-vaccine series than non-Hispanic white children.
World Immunization Week is an annual week-long observance led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to highlight the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases.
This year’s theme, The Big Catch-Up, will raise awareness of the urgent and critical need to find and vaccinate children who missed vaccines that help to protect them from illness, disability, and death.

CDC Environmental Justice Dashboard
People from racial and ethnic minority, low-income and indigenous communities are most often disproportionately affected by environmental hazards, such as environmental pollutants and climate-related events.
The Environmental Justice Dashboard created by the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) brings together data that is important to understand environmental exposures. It contains characteristics of a community (such as demographics and built environment), and information on health burden to help public health practitioners, advocates, and policy makers better understand environmental and health inequities.

Coverage to Care (C2C) Initiative Prevention Resources
The Coverage to Care (C2C) initiative from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Minority Health provides consumer literature in multiple languages about understanding health coverage and connecting to primary care and preventive services.
The C2C Prevention Resources flyers are available in eight different languages and help consumers navigate preventative care visits for different age groups and genders.

Preventing Alcohol Exposed Pregnancy Among Urban Native Young Women: Mobile CHOICES (WYSE CHOICES)
This study, sponsored by the University of Colorado, Denver in collaboration with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), intends to test the effectiveness of a culturally adapted mobile health intervention to prevent alcohol exposed pregnancy, using social media to recruit American Indian and Alaska Native young women from urban centers across the nation. This study will be conducted in Aurora, Colorado.
Improving Health Insurance Literacy Among Utah's Hispanic Population
This study, sponsored by the University of Utah in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), intends to test an existing health insurance education program in the Utah Hispanic community and evaluate whether it improves participants’ health insurance and cost related literacy. This study will be conducted in West Valley City, Utah.
