Encouraging Better Health Through Better Understanding this National Minority Health Month
April is National Minority Health Month! This year’s theme, Better Health Through Better Understanding, focuses on improving health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native communities by providing them with culturally and linguistically competent healthcare services, information, and resources.
During this observance, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) will promote events and multilingual resources to help empower patients to ask for what they need and educate providers and community health workers on ways to be more aware of patients' varying health literacy levels.
Visit National Minority Health Month web pages in English and Spanish to find resources, social media messages, graphics, and information to encourage Better Health Through Better Understanding in your community.

New Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Online Training for Faith, Spiritual, and Religious Communities
Adverse childhood experiences are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-17 years). Women and several racial and ethnic minority groups are at greater risk for experiencing four or more types of adverse childhood experiences.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences Online Training for Faith, Spiritual, and Religious Communities is for faith, spiritual, and religious community members, including clergy, leaders, staff, teachers, and youth group leaders. The training will help participants understand their role in preventing adverse childhood experiences by hearing personal stories from adverse childhood experiences Torchbearers and learning how persons of all faith communities can help prevent adverse childhood experiences and lessen their effects on the health and well-being of children and families.
