National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week®️ (NDAFW) is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth.
Between 2021 and 2022, levels of alcohol use significantly increased among adolescents while levels of cannabis use and nicotine vaping decreased according to Monitoring the Future (MTF), National Survey Results on Drug Use, 1975-2022: Secondary School Students.
Join the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and help share facts about drugs, alcohol, and addiction in your community using the hashtag #NDAFW.

Promoting Viral Suppression among Individuals from Health Disparity Populations Engaged in HIV Care
Grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will support research projects to test interventions to promote antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, ART adherence, and suppressed viral load for people living with HIV from health disparity populations who live in geographic areas with a high rate of new HIV infections and are engaged in HIV care.

The report Advancing Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEMM Organizations from NASEM examines the backdrop of systemic racism in the United States that has harmed and continues to harm people from minoritized groups, which is critical for understanding the unequal representation in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM).
The report provides recommendations that should help sustain attention and resources to change systems, policies, and cultures that would yield equitable scientific environments that develop a full range of talents, abilities, perspectives, and experiences.

Social Determinants of Health Information Exchange Toolkit
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) published the Social Determinants of Health Information Exchange Toolkit to support communities working toward achieving health equity through social determinants of health (SDOH) information exchange and the use of interoperable, standardized data to represent SDOH.
The toolkit is structured around 10 Foundational Elements of SDOH Information Exchange and includes case studies and questions for consideration that can aid implementers as they build or update data initiatives involving SDOH.

NCRN’s New Podcast – Connections: Lessons in Building Healthy Communities
The National COVID-19 Resiliency Network (NCRN) at the Morehouse School of Medicine announced its new podcast, Connections: Lessons in Building Healthy Communities.
This podcast stems from NCRN’s experience working with over 400 national and local partners to deliver information on the COVID-19 pandemic and provide resources to communities that continue to be negatively impacted by health and social inequities.
In each episode, NCRN will interview guests who share their unique perspectives on how different communities build resilience and advance health equity through partnerships, education, and resource sharing.

MOM NEST Study: Maternal Opioid Medication: Naltrexone Efficacy Study
This study, sponsored by the Boston Medical Center, intends to examine the safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacogenomics of naltrexone for pregnant women with opioid use disorder. Pregnancy, delivery, and maternal and infant outcomes to 12 months post-delivery will be examined and compared with a cohort treated with buprenorphine/naloxone. The study will be conducted in Boston, Massachusetts and Carrboro, North Carolina.
Mindful Moms in Recovery (MMORE)
This study, sponsored by the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, intends to evaluate the initial efficacy of a yoga-mindfulness intervention to promote ongoing recovery for pregnant and parenting women with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) receiving perinatal services and medication treatment for OUD from maternity care practices. The study will be conducted in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Fellowship by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Center for Health Justice to support the health justice community in a two-year position to work in partnership with other organizations and advocates to develop and launch resources for environmental justice action, policy change, and research.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Genomic Science and Health Equity
Fellowship from the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE). The program will prepare the postdoctoral fellow to use genetic, genomic and pharmacogenomic approaches to advance minority health and health equity and train them in the research methodology and medical product development processes that facilitate the delivery of drugs, biologics, and devices from bench to bedside.
