COVID-19 Public Health Emergency to End on May 11

Since January 2022, daily COVID-19 reported cases are down 92%, COVID-19 deaths have declined by over 80%, and new COVID-19 hospitalizations are down nearly 80%.

As a result, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) will end on May 11. To prepare for this transition, HHS has released Fact Sheet: COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Transition Roadmap detailing what will and will not be affected by the end of the PHE.

March 20 is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a day to promote HIV testing, prevention, and treatment in American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.

In 2019, for every 100 American Indian/Alaska Native people with HIV, 80 knew their status. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are pursuing a high-impact HIV prevention approach to maximize the effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions and strategies.

Visit the CDC website for additional resources, including the GetTested Tool, an online tool that helps individuals find free, local, and confidential HIV and STI testing.

Utilizing Social Media to Increase COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence Across Indian Country

Funding from the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) for Tribal governments, Tribal health departments, and Tribal health care facilities/health systems seeking to provide community-level support for combatting COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy through direct support through the development of regionally and culturally specific vaccine hesitancy material.
Deadline is March 24, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Forecasted cooperative agreement from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to establish a multi-institutional research network that is comprised of and supports minority-serving institutions (MSIs) to build their capacity to conduct research addressing disparities in maternal mortality, severe maternal morbidity, and maternal health outcomes and to find community-based solutions to address these disparities and advance health equity.

Created by the National Indigenous Elder Justice Initiative (NIEJI), My Advance Care Plan & Guide for Native Americans is intended to help encourage discussions, assist Indigenous people in planning for health issues, end-of-life decisions, and being able to share their wishes with loved ones.

Sections of the advance care plan guide users through topics including what is important to them now, how they like to make decisions, what care and treatment they would like in the future, and what is important to them after their death.

Women of underrepresented racial and ethnic communities, in economically disadvantaged groups, who live in underserved rural populations, and of sexual and gender minority groups bear a disproportionate burden of disease and adverse health outcomes.

The women of understudied, underrepresented,
and underreported populations (U3) framework and administrative supplement program, developed by the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH), seeks to draw attention to and support research that addresses this gap, with the aim of advancing health equity.

Moving Matters for Your Health

moving matters

The Moving Matters campaign, part of the Active People, Healthy NationSM initiative, helps promote the benefits of physical activity, encourage people to find small ways to incorporate movement into their day, and remind people that physical activity can be fun.

New resources to expand the campaign are now available. Materials include social media posts, online banner ads, photos, audio scripts, and outreach materials in English and Spanish. The content is intended to help Black and Hispanic women, including mothers, ages 18-44 become more physically active.
