Celebrate Men's Health Month in June
Throughout June, Men's Health Month aims to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by implementing healthy living decisions.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 13.2% of men aged 18 and over are in fair or poor health. The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) Six Plays for Men's Health remind men and boys that they can improve their health by seeking medical advice and taking other important steps, such as making healthy food choices, staying active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups, taking care of their mental health, and getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Funding Opportunity from OMH: Community-Driven Approaches to Address Factors Contributing to Structural Racism in Public Health
The OMH Community-Driven Approaches to Address Factors Contributing to Structural Racism in Public Health initiative will build upon the OMH-funded FY2021 Framework to Address Health Disparities through Collaborative Policy Efforts Initiative. In doing so, recipients will utilize and build on the tools developed by the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI). Recipients under this announcement will utilize the NNPHI's assessment framework and tools and other established frameworks/tools. Recipients will demonstrate the effectiveness of these tools to increase the capacity of community-led teams to identify policy impacts that may create or perpetuate health disparities by contributing to structural racism.

Funding Opportunity from OMH: Demonstrating Policy Effectiveness to Promote Black Youth Mental Health Initiative
The OMH Demonstrating Policy Effectiveness to Promote Black Youth Mental Health initiative seeks to identify health and wellness policies that are successful in improving Black youth mental health, including suicide prevention.
Demonstration projects will implement evidence-based policies, pilot policy assessment protocols that will determine the level of effectiveness of general health and wellness policies in diverse settings, and develop and carry out demonstrations of selected innovative and culturally effective policy approaches.

First Heroes: Engaging Fathers in the First 1,000 Days
This study, sponsored by the Massachusetts General Hospital and HRSA, seeks first-time mother and father dyads where both parties are 18 years or older. The First Heroes study plans to influence weight and health trajectories, modify disease risk, and improve health care services for mother-father-infant triads from racial and ethnic minority populations. The study will be carried out within the MassGeneral Brigham Healthcare system in Boston, Massachusetts.
Testing THRIVE 365 for Black Sexual Minority Men
This study, sponsored by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, THRIVE Social Services, the Positive Impact Health Centers, and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), seeks Black sexual minority men (BSMM) age 16 years or older. THRIVE 365 provides four areas of support for BSMM: HIV and mental health knowledge, positive social connections, connecting clients to BSMM-affirming healthcare, and providing resources for housing, transportation, and other social determinants of health. The study will be carried out at Rutgers in Newark, New Jersey.

Please Answer the Call! 988 Lifeline Suicide & Crisis Network Jobs
According to the CDC, suicide is the ninth leading cause of death among AI/AN people, and the suicide rate among non-Hispanic AI/AN males ages 15-34 years old is 68.4 per 100,000. On July 16, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) will transition to an easy-to-remember, three-digit number: 988. This represents an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen and expand the existing network of over 200 locally operated and funded crisis centers across the country.
In advance of the 988 transition in July, the Lifeline suicide and crisis network is looking to bring on new volunteers and paid employees to answer calls, chats, and texts from people in crisis. All employees and volunteers will receive training.
