World Hypertension Day Event: Check In & Check Up for Your Health
Almost half of American adults suffer from high blood pressure and many don't know they have it. The World Hypertension Day 2022 virtual panel, Check In & Check Up for Your Health, highlighted high blood pressure and its connections to community. Discussion topics included the basics of blood pressure, such as the importance of knowing your numbers, risk factors, and accurate measurement, and the work that is being done in communities to empower others with the knowledge and tools to live their best lives.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Paxlovid to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults and children 12 years and older. The FDA has published a Fact Sheet for Health Care Providers and a Patient Eligibility Screening Checklist for Prescribers to support clinical decision making.

Resource: Hawai'i Primary Care Needs Assessment Tracker
The Primary Care Needs Assessment Data Tracker, developed by the Hawai'i State Department of Health and available via Hawai'i Health Matters, is a tool for comparing common health statistics to bring awareness to health disparities in Hawai'i. Data is available by county, primary care service area, ZIP-code, census place and tract, and race and ethnicity, including AA, NHPI, and American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations.

Resource: Diabetes and the Eyes Educational Toolkit
The Diabetes & The Eyes Educational Toolkit, created by Prevent Blindness, offers educational materials on preventing diabetes-related retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataracts, as well as strategies for maintaining healthy vision. This resource was designed for healthcare professionals, community health educators, diabetes educators, and anyone in a caregiving or diabetes education role. Toolkit materials are available in English and Spanish.

The Treatment in Pregnancy for Hepatitis C (TiP-HepC) Registry
This study, sponsored by the Task Force for Global Health and the CDC, seeks pregnant individuals with chronic hepatitis C virus infection. This study will test the efficacy and safety of direct-acting antiviral medications in pregnant women and their effectiveness in reducing mother-to-child transmission. The study will be carried out at the Taskforce for Global Health in Atlanta, Georgia.
CHW Intervention to Improve Post-Hospital Outcomes
This study, sponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago, the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, and SAMHSA, seeks individuals ages 21-60 years old with a chronic medical condition. This study will test an intervention delivered by community health workers (CHWs) and designed to help avoid 30-day readmissions following hospitalization by patients with a co-occurring mental illness. The study will be carried out at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Department of Psychiatry.

Maternal Health Training: Birth & Breastfeeding Leadership Institute
The Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association announced the launch of its Birth & Breastfeeding Leadership Institute, a virtual national leadership development program designed to advance community-level leadership for racial justice and equity in maternal and child health. Leaders can now apply for the first cohort, which will open for self-paced instruction on July 18. Deadline for application is May 31.
HIV/AIDS Training: ESCALATE
The ESCALATE (Ending Stigma through Collaboration and Lifting All To Empowerment) program, created by NMAC, trains and empowers participants to recognize and address HIV stigma within every level of the federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. Training is available for both individuals and organizations. Current in-person training dates and locations are:
- June 13-17 in Los Angeles, California

- The Miami training program will be offered in Spanish.
Training: Improving Health and Well-Being in AI/AN Communities Through Compliance
The HHS Office of Inspector General launched Improving Health and Well-Being in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities Through Compliance, a training series that focuses on compliance, fraud, waste and abuse, and health care quality topics such as the opioid epidemic, challenges to delivering quality care within the Indian Health Service (IHS), and protecting patients from abuse. The series is intended for organizations that administer HHS-funded programs to AI/AN communities.
