In Case You Missed It: HIV Challenge Webinar
On August 19, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) and the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy (OIDP) hosted a webinar to review the details of the new HIV Challenge. In case you missed it, you can visit our YouTube channel to get additional information on how to apply, criteria, judging, prizes and more.
The HIV Challenge provides an opportunity for individuals and organizations to participate in developing novel innovative approaches that can be successfully implemented within their local communities. The Challenge is available in English and Spanish. The deadline to submit a concept for the Challenge is September 23.

National Preparedness Month: Prepare Your Health Resources

The Youth Opioid Recovery Support (YORS) Intervention
This study, sponsored by the Potomac Health Foundations, the NIH, and the Friends Research Institute, seeks youth age 18 years or older with a diagnosis of opioid use disorder (OUD). The study seeks to test an intervention that addresses barriers to medication adherence and treatment engagement. It will be carried out at the Mountain Manor Treatment Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Fathering In Recovery (FIR)
This study, sponsored by the Oregon Research Behavioral Intervention Strategies and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, seeks fathers age 18 years or older who are in recovery from OUD and have at least part-time custody of at least one child between the ages of 3-12. The goal of this project is to develop and evaluate a web-based program that integrates existing evidence-based parenting programs, yet tailored specifically to fathers with OUD and designed for the opioid treatment context. The study will be carried out at Oregon Research Behavioral Intervention Strategies in Eugene, Oregon.

HRSA Students to Service Loan Repayment Program
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (S2S LRP) provides loan repayment assistance to students in their last year of medical, nursing, or dental school. In return, students must commit to provide at least three years of service at an NHSC-approved site in a designated Health Professional Shortage Area.
Deadline is November 4, by 7:30 p.m. ET.

SAMHSA Creating Safe Scenes Training Course
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Creating Safe Scenes Training Course is a free online course that helps first responders understand more about mental health, mental illness, and substance use disorders so they can better assess risks and apply the safest strategies for taking care of themselves and the individuals they are called to serve.
