For Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH), the National Park Service, and the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders will host a panel discussion on historic trauma to AAPI communities. Panelists will contextualize anti-Asian policies dating back to the 1800s which have contributed to the persistent anti-Asian sentiment and violence we see today. We will also hear from Asian Americans who are leading grass-roots efforts to protect and empower diverse AAPI communities, as well as current federal efforts such as the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force.

This National Minority Health Month (NMHM), join the fight to end the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing accurate and trusted information as a member of HHS COVID-19 Community Corps. The Pacific Islander Center of Primary Care Excellence has launched the Woven with Elders: Pacific Islander Vaccine Toolkit. It provides graphics, easy-to-read fact sheets, and responses to FAQs regarding COVID-19 vaccinations to protect Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian communities, especially older adult populations.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has released the findings from its December 2020 Well-Being and Basic Needs Survey: Average Decline in Material Hardship During Pandemic Conceals Unequal Circumstances. The data highlights how material hardship, such as food insecurity and problems paying medical bills, disproportionately impacted people who lost jobs and incomes during the first year of COVID-19.

The Kaiser Family Foundation has published data on COVID-19 Vaccination among American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) People. Among the findings is data that shows that the high vaccination rate among AI/AN people largely reflects Tribal leadership in implementing vaccine prioritization and distribution strategies that meet the preferences and needs of their communities.

NIH has extended the deadline for your organization to respond to NIH's Request for Information to receive feedback on their effort to end structural racism in biomedical research through the UNITE Initiative. OMH joins the federal government and the AAPI community in calling out and condemning anti-Asian policies, sentiments, and violence. The following resources can help you take action. 

The How to Report a Hate Crime visual booklets, available in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese, are designed to help elderly Asian people write down detailed descriptions of incidents. They also include useful English phrases to flash to a bystander to seek help during an attack if elders are not able to speak English.
