HHS Invites You to Join the COVID-19 Community Corps

We Can Do This: COVID-19 Community Corps logo

The HHS We Can Do This COVID-19 public education campaign is a national initiative to increase public confidence in and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines while reinforcing basic prevention measures such as mask wearing and social distancing.

You're invited to support the effort by joining the COVID-19 Community Corps. As a member, you'll receive timely, accurate information to share with your family, friends, and neighbors. By encouraging them to get vaccinated, you'll help protect them – and allow all of us to safely gather together again.

Join the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) and the Health Resources and Services Administration's Office of Health Equity for a virtual event for National Minority Health Month. Speakers will focus on the disproportionate impact that COVID-19 has had on communities of color, why disparities in health outcomes and health care access persist, and what measures can be taken to address these inequities. Additionally, speakers will explore COVID-19 vaccine promotion and uptake among racial and ethnic minorities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is committed to achieving health equity in its response to COVID-19. Read, subscribe, and share resources from Did You Know?, a feature from CDC's Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support that provides data, findings, and infographics for public health professionals.

The Black Women's Health Imperative has published Surviving & Thriving: COVID-19 Pandemic Survival Guide for Black Women and Their Families. The guide describes the scope of the health, economic, and social impacts of COVID-19 on African American women and provides practical tips and resources Black women can use to lessen their severity. 

The COVID Collaborative and the Ad Council It’s Up to You campaign seeks to educate the American public and build confidence around the COVID-19 vaccines. Use the Collaborative's new toolkits to get message guidance, language do's and don'ts, and audience insights. Toolkits are available for African American and Hispanic/Latino communities, as well as faith-based organizations.  

Learning Community: Maternal Health Hub

The Maternal Health Hub Learning Community is a forum to share knowledge, best practices, and resources to accelerate the identification and dissemination of effective, value-based maternal health care delivery that advances health equity.

The Learning Community will meet monthly by conference call and you will be invited to engage actively in continued discussions via the online Maternal Health Hub forum.

Report: Navajo Nation Maternal and Child Health Needs Assessment

The 2020 Navajo Maternal and Child Health Needs Assessment, published by the Navajo Nation Epidemiology Center, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Health ServicesNorthern Arizona University, and Diné College, reviews the strengths and weaknesses of the health care systems in place for Navajo Nation women and children. Developed within a Navajo-specific cultural framework, the report emphasizes that health outcomes are influenced by the balance between individual, family, community, and environmental health.

New Approaches for Empowering Studies of Asthma in Populations of African Descent

This study, sponsored by the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute, seeks volunteers of African, African American, or Afro-Caribbean ancestry, ages 18-99 years old, who either have no history of asthma or wheeze, or who have a physician's diagnosis of asthma. The study will be carried out at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Maternal Morbidity and Mortality During the COVID-19 Pandemic

This study, sponsored by the George Washington University Biostatistics Center and the NIH Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, seeks women who delivered at selected hospitals from March 1-December 31, 2019 or March 1-December 31, 2020, as well as pregnant and postpartum women with confirmed COVID-19 infection from March 1-December 31, 2020. The study will be carried out at hospitals in Alabama, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Utah.

Healthline and Prevention Institute Stronger Scholarship

The Healthline and Prevention Institute Stronger Scholarship Program is open to college students of color (junior or senior) who identify as Black/African American, AI/AN, Hispanic/Latino, and/or Pacific Islander. Applicants should demonstrate involvement in health equity by breaking down barriers to health for the Black/African American, Native, and Hispanic/Latino communities.
