The HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published tips for the safe celebration of Thanksgiving as well as other fall and winter holidays, including guidelines on Travel during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The HHS Indian Health Service (IHS) has announced the IHS COVID-19 Pandemic Vaccine Plan November 2020. The plan details how the IHS health care system will prepare for and operationalize a vaccine when it becomes available. It also provides important guidance for all IHS federal, tribal health programs and urban Indian organizations that choose to receive COVID-19 vaccine coordinated through IHS.

The HHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that Medicare will cover and pay for infusions of bamlanivimab, an investigational monoclonal antibody therapy for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults and pediatric patients with positive COVID-19 test results who are at high risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 and/or hospitalization.

The strategic plan is intended to provide a roadmap to MCHB's future, positioning MCHB to respond effectively to the needs of maternal and child health populations, accelerate improvement in equitable MCH health and well-being, incorporate public health advancements, leverage new technologies and translate emerging evidence into practice.

Resources: Epilepsy and Seizure First Aid Education for AI/ANs

There are over 51,000 Native and Indigenous people living with epilepsy in the U.S. Epilepsy Foundation: epilepsy.com. Native American Heritage Month.

In collaboration with NIHB, the National Congress of American Indians and others, the Epilepsy Foundation has developed a culturally appropriate and relevant outreach campaign to increase epilepsy and Seizure First Aid education among AI/AN communities, including information about Seizure First Aid and translated Seizure First Aid posters in Navajo, Cherokee and Lakota.

Understanding the Challenges, Behavioral Patterns, and Preferences Towards Participation in Clinical Trials in Minority Populations

This behavioral study, sponsored by the Mayo Clinic and the NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI), seeks racial and ethnic minority patients age 18 years or older with a cancer diagnosis. The study is to be conducted at Mayo Clinics in Florida, Arizona and Rochester, MN, and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center at St. Vincent's Riverside in Jacksonville, FL.

Perinatal Attentional Retraining Intervention for Smoking for Minority Women (PARIS)

This behavioral study, sponsored by Yale University and the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), seeks racial and ethnic minority women age 18-40 years old with a history of smoking 5+ cigarettes per day that have achieved abstinence during pregnancy by 32 weeks gestation. The study is to be conducted at Yale University in New Haven, CT.

The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) 2020 RareLaunch® Workshops will provide information, hands-on training and advice from nonprofit experts to help launch rare disease nonprofits or to build the capacity of existing ones. 


HHS IHS Loan Repayment Program

The IHS Loan Repayment Program awards repayment of up to $40,000 for qualified health profession education loans to clinicians who commit to practice in health facilities serving AI/AN communities for an initial two-year commitment.

Training: Éxito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Program

The Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio 2021 Éxito! Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training Program will recruit 25 U.S. master's level students and professionals to participate in a five-day, culturally tailored Éxito! summer institute to promote the pursuit of a doctoral degree and cancer research.
June 7-11, 2021 in San Antonio, TX.
