Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) model

The CDC has released COVID-19 Questions and Answers: For People Who Use Drugs or Have Substance Use Disorder. The Q&A is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean.  

The CDC has also compiled a list of resources on Food and Food System Resources During the COVID-19 Pandemic. The guidance includes information on food assistance and safety for children, families and individuals in both urban and rural areas, as well as information on access to federal food assistance programs and best practices at restaurant and food retail venues. 

The National Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders partnered with researchers at The
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and Leiden University Medical Center to understand how COVID-19 is affecting individuals with eating disorders. It has published guidance resources for individuals with lived experience, parents and/or caregivers, and healthcare providers.

Visit the HHS National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute website for tips on Heart-Healthy Living, as well as English and Spanish resources from their The Heart Truth health education campaign and materials for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander populations

HealthReach, a service of the NIH National Library of Medicine (NLM), provides resources on heart attacks and heart diseases in several languages, including Spanish, Asian languages, Hindi and Arabic.

The National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP Caregiving in the U.S. 2020 report presents an update on 2015 findings. It reveals an increase in the number of family caregivers in the United States and that family caregivers are in worse health compared to five years ago. The report includes sections on African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and LGBTQ caregivers, as well as a Spanish-language version of the report.

A Study of LY3819253 (LY-CoV555) in Preventing SARS-CoV-2 Infection and COVID-19 in Nursing Home Residents and Staff

This phase 3 clinical trial, sponsored by Eli Lilly, the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and AbCellera Biologics, seeks resident or facility staff in skilled nursing or assisted living facilities with at least one confirmed case of direct SARS-CoV-2 detection less than or equal to (≤)7 days prior to randomization. Studies are currently recruiting at locations in Huntington Beach, Cali., Chicago, Ill. and Houston, Texas, with further locations opening in the future.

Reducing Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Perimenopausal Latinas

This behavioral study, sponsored by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC) and the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), seeks perimenopausal Hispanic/Latinas age 40-55 years old with an intact uterus, at least one ovary and who are not currently pregnant. Study to be conducted at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC.

Scholarship: 2020 Dr. Richard Allen Williams Scholarship

The Association of Black Cardiologists awards scholarships to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year medical students who show promise in medical research, cardiology and academic medicine. This scholarship was created to promote diversity in medicine, encourage commitment to eliminating health care disparities and support future cardiologists, while helping to alleviate medical student debt. Awards are based upon the following criteria: demonstrated ability, interest and participation in the promotion of health for the African American community, participation in research or other extracurricular activities, demonstrated academic pursuits and clinical acumen, and proven leadership during academic pursuits.

Training: ITHS KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program
