OMH COVID-19 Initiative Award Announcement

The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) awarded the Morehouse School of Medicine the National Infrastructure for Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19 within Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities funding opportunity. This $40 million initiative, led by the Morehouse School of Medicine, will develop a national network to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on racial and ethnic minority populations. June 27 is National HIV Testing Day

The HHS recognizes June 27 as National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) with the theme "Knowing." This theme focuses on knowing one's HIV status, recognizing new ways to take an HIV test, and knowing about treatment and prevention options such as PrEP. Please visit the OMH website for HIV/AIDS and PrEP resources. You can also share information about NHTD via the HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Let's Stop HIV Together campaign and by highlighting their HIV Risk Reduction Tool. The CDC has also compiled information on HIV self-testing, a method of providing HIV diagnostic services in the time of COVID-19.

RADx-UP Coordination and Data Collection Center (CDCC)

The HHS National Institutes of Health (NIH) will fund a single CDCC as part of research projects to understand the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on underserved and vulnerable populations. 
Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI) is July 8.

The American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation supports the opening of new, free primary care clinics, including the purchase of medical equipment and instruments.

Tribal Injury Prevention Cooperative Agreement Program

The HHS Indian Health Service (IHS) will fund community-based injury prevention programs and projects that prioritize motor vehicle related injuries and elder falls.

The HHS Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) are pleased to announce the MENTAL Health Innovation Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to increase consumer awareness and use of technology tools that keep racial and minority populations, older adults, people with disabilities and Veterans socially engaged and connected to families, friends, communities and activities of interest.

The NIHB has compiled a PrEP toolkit that explores ways in which AI/AN Tribes, Tribal organizations, community members, leaders and service providers can build relationships and strengthen the systems needed to incorporate PrEP into medical practice, social norms and community culture. It also provides tools, language and conversation starters to bring PrEP into a community.

Computer Assisted Family Intervention to Treat Self-Harm Disparities in Latinas and Sexual/Gender Minority Youth

This behavioral study, sponsored by the University of Miami and the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), seeks Hispanic/Latina female or Hispanic/Latinx LGBT youth (male or female), age 12-18 years old, who self-report self-harm in the past 6 months and meet criteria for depression, emotion dysregulation, family conflict and/or substance use. The University of California, San Francisco's Social Interventions Research and Evaluation Network (SIREN) fellowship seeks to improve health and health equity by advancing high quality research on health care sector strategies to improve social conditions. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD or equivalent) and have advanced research experience in health services research or a related field such as health policy, nursing, social work, public health or epidemiology.
