May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) celebrates the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. Throughout the observance in May, OMH will honor the rich culture of AAPIs and promote overall health by encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle, regular doctor visits and better eating habits. Due TODAY!: National Infrastructure for Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19 within Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities
As a result of technical difficulties with Grants.gov, the deadline has been extended to apply for the OMH new funding opportunity. Up to $40 million will be awarded to help develop and deliver important COVID-19 related information to racial and ethnic minority, rural and socially vulnerable communities hardest hit by the pandemic. Toolkit: Social Determinants of Health Collections
The NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) and National Human Genome Research Institute have released a new collection of social determinants of health assessments as part of the PhenX Toolkit. This open-access collection contains 19 protocols to help measure upstream factors that shape health behaviors and health outcomes, promote collaborations between researchers and clinicians, and accelerate translational research.

Resource: Easy-to-Understand Telehealth Consent Form
The HHS Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has created a sample telehealth consent form that is easy to understand. The form includes language for healthcare providers that have curtailed in-person visits due to COVID-19. AHRQ has also created how-to guidance for clinicians on how to obtain informed consent for telehealth.

Patient Portal and Navigation Program in Providing Information for Asian American Cancer Patients
This behavioral study, sponsored by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, seeks San Francisco-based Asia American cancer patients, caregivers who provide care to Asian American cancer patients and health professionals who provide care to Asian American cancer patients. Patients and caregivers must be 21 years or older. Study to be conducted at UCSF in San Francisco, Cali.
Obesity and Caries in Young South Asian Children: A Common Risk Factor Approach (CHALO)
This behavioral study, sponsored by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Columbia University, Rutgers University and the University of Rochester, seeks Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi children, age 3 months to 2 years old, who are enrolled in either Medicaid or CHIP. Study to be conducted at various locations in New Jersey and New York City.

Medical Interpreter Training: Bridging the Gap
The Cross Cultural Health Care Program online Medical Interpreter Training course covers foundational skills such as the roles of the interpreter, interpreter code of ethics, medical terminology and more. The online Training of Trainers course prepares attendees to become trainers of the Bridging the Gap curriculum and bring medical interpreter training to their communities. Continuing Education: Public Health Grand Rounds On Demand
The CDC Public Health Grand Rounds is a monthly webcast created to foster discussion on major public health issues. Each session focuses on key challenges related to a specific health topic, and explores cutting-edge scientific evidence and the potential impact of different interventions. Continuing Education (CE) credit is available for two years after each session's initial offering. CE credits are available to physicians, nurses, epidemiologists, pharmacists, veterinarians, certified health education specialists, laboratorians and other health professionals.
Continuing Education: Storytelling for Public Health
The New England Public Health Training Center online Storytelling for Public Health course introduces storytelling as an effective communication tool in public health practice. After reviewing story structures, attendees will review public health stories in multiple formats and outline their own story using a storyboard. This program offers 1 CE credit to designated Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) and/or Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES).
