  • HHS/Office of Minority Health (OMH): Assessing Culturally Appropriate Treatment in Communities of Color: Role of Providers to Improve Quality of Care for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This webinar will highlight the use of the National CLAS Standards to improve engagement and care of racial/ethnic minority patients with an OUD. Speakers will discuss how their population or community-specific program has improved OUD treatment by using culturally and linguistically approaches/strategies.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): Research grant. Addressing Suicide Research Gaps: Understanding Mortality Outcomes (R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed). Encourages integration of existing data sets for secondary analyses aimed at identifying biological, experiential and other predictors and moderators of suicide risk.

  • HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA): Grant. Nurse Faculty Loan Program. Provides funding to accredited schools of nursing to offer loans to students enrolled in advanced education nursing degree programs who are committed to become nurse faculty.

  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Cooperative agreement. Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Program. Supports community-driven solutions that address environmental and/or public health issues for underserved communities, including minority, Tribal, low income, rural and homeless populations.

  • Retirement Research Foundation: 2020 Responsive Grants. Supports projects that provide direct services, advocacy, education and/or training to professionals working with elders.

  • The van Ameringen Foundation: Mental Health Grants. Supports programs that increase access to mental health services for underserved communities, offer preventive and early-intervention strategies and advocate for systemic change. Eligibility is limited to organizations in the five boroughs of New York City and/or the City of Philadelphia.

  • Greater Cincinnati Foundation: Safety Net Services Grants. Supports organizations in the greater Cincinnati region that provide access to food and shelter and/or increase access to mental health services to vulnerable residents.

  • Ron Brown Scholar ProgramRon Brown Scholarship. Provides financial assistance to African American high school seniors with an interest in public service and community engagement so that they may attend an accredited four-year college or university.

  • CSH (Corporation for Supportive Housing)Breaking the Cycle of Intergenerational Diabetes. This webinar, intended for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), will address what research says about the prevalence of diabetes across generations. It will offer strategies to address barriers to diabetes and chronic disease management for families facing homelessness, housing insecurity and other environmental living conditions.

  • Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers: Promoting Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment in Primary Care. This webinar, intended for FQHCs, will discuss the prevalence and consequences of alcohol use disorder. It will review alcohol screening as standard care and will highlight steps for further assessment for those with the highest screening scores.

Maternal Mental Health: The State of the State in California and Beyond. This report looks at the work implemented in both California and nationally to address maternal mental health since April 2017. It details efforts such as recommendations to screen for maternal mental health disorders, efforts to define the 4th trimester and recent federal legislation and grants to address maternal mental health. This newly designed website helps connect those who are looking for substance abuse treatment. Visitors can enter a ZIP Code to find local state-licensed facilities, treatment options, payment and insurance information, and what to expect on the first call. Learn more.

  • HHS and the National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC) recognize January as Cervical Health Awareness Month. For further information, including social media content, posters, podcasts and resources for health professionals, please visit NCCC, Healthfinder.gov and the HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Inside Knowledge About Gynecologic Cancer campaign, which encourages women to pay attention to their bodies, so they can recognize any warning signs and seek medical care.

@ The Knowledge Center - Recommended Reading

The book Food Literacy: How Do Communications and Marketing Impact Consumer Knowledge, Skills, and Behavior, is a workshop summary describing presentations and discussions that occurred during a workshop hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Food and Nutrition Board. Topics covered in the workshop include definitions of food literacy and food well-being, a summary of how scientific information related to food is presented to consumers, as well as communication tools and strategies for promoting food literacy.
