  • The HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH), in partnership with the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP): Twitter chat. #IAmActiveandHealthy. This chat will focus on raising awareness about the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, highlighting what "Active and Healthy" partners and participants have done over the year to promote the theme and discuss ways everyone can stay active and healthy going into the new year. Use #IAmActiveandHealthy to join the conversation.

  • HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA): Grant. Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Public Health Catalyst Program. Supports the development of MCH curricula, competencies and degree offerings and the recruitment of graduate student trainees from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds to complete MCH coursework.

  • Department of Labor (DOL)/Employment and Training Administration (ETA): Grant. The Support to Communities: Fostering Opioid Recovery Through Workforce Development. Funds the delivery of career, training and supportive services by state and territory workforce agencies or Tribal organizations to workers impacted by the opioid crisis.

  • Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS): Grants. Native Hawaiian and Native American Library Services. Supports the enhancement of existing services or the implementation of new services or community educational programs in libraries that primarily serve and represent Native Hawaiians or American Indians/Alaska Natives (AI/ANs).
    Native American Library Services: Basic Grants. Deadline is April 1, 2020.  
    Native American Library Services: Enhancement Grants. Deadline is May 1, 2020

Non-Federal Grants

  • Robert Wood Johnson FoundationPolicies for a Healthier, More Equitable New Jersey. Supports policy advocacy/analysis, community organizing and resident engagement, and provides technical assistance to state agencies. Eligibility is limited to New Jersey-based organizations that serve New Jersey residents.

  • Council of State and Territorial EpidemiologistsState, Territorial, Local and Tribal Based Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Standardized Surveillance Case Definition Implementation Project. Provides a mechanism for state, local, Tribal and territorial public health organizations or agencies with public health authority to conduct population health surveillance of opioid use disorder-related NAS.

The NSCH provides national and state level estimates of key measures of child health and well-being, including the prevalence of health conditions such as adverse childhood experiences, the availability of accessible health care, family health and parental health status. Opportunities for Publication

  • Ethnicity & Disease: Call for manuscripts for a special issue supporting early stage investigators. The purpose of this special issue is to highlight research conducted by early stage researchers, defined as individuals in tenure or non-tenure track positions at the assistant professor rank, particularly public health-related research focused on epidemiology, medical care, health informatics and information technology, health administration, community health, pharmacy, nursing and social work.

Clinical Trials

  • Temple University, in collaboration with the NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI): Behavioral study. Chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Management for Asian Americans. Researchers seek Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese volunteers age 18 years or older with a chronic HBV infection to test a virtual patient navigation toolkit system to help HBV patients improve their liver disease management. Study to be conducted at the Temple University Center for Asian Health in Philadelphia, Pa. Learn more.

  • Washington State University, in collaboration with the University of Washington and the NIH National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): Behavioral study. Caring Contacts: A Strength-based, Suicide Prevention Trial in 4 Native Communities (CARE). Researchers seek AI/AN volunteers age 18 years or older who are suicidal or have a documented or self-reported suicide attempt within the past year. Study to be conducted at the Fort Peck Tribes Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Wellness Program in Poplar, Mont. and the Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health in Tahlequah, Okla. Learn more.

Workforce Development

  • University of California San Francisco School of Medicine: Training. Summer 2020 Visiting Professor Program. This program is designed to assist scientific investigators who are conducting research to reduce health disparities in HIV and sexually transmitted infections among minority communities.

  • Cross Cultural Health Care ProgramBridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training. Available as 40-hour or 64-hour courses, participants will learn about interpreter roles, national codes of ethics, culture and its impact on interpreting, health disparities and considerations for interpreting for LGBTQ communities.

The Poisoned City: Flint's Water and the American Urban Tragedy describes the health and environmental crisis created in Flint, Michigan, in April 2014, due to the city’s water supply becoming contaminated with lead. The book highlights key moments throughout the city’s history, in addition to focusing on stories of people who live and work in Flint.
