  • HHS and Men's Health Network recognize June 14 as Wear BLUE Day. This national observance is an opportunity for organizations and individuals to help spread the word about the importance of helping men take necessary steps toward disease prevention, early detection and pursuing treatment after a diagnosis. World Sickle Cell Awareness Day 10th Anniversary: Shine the Light on Sickle Cell, June 19
  • HHS and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) recognize June 19 as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. This international awareness day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease (SCD), and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers. To find out more about SCDAA's 24-hour awareness campaign, Shine the Light on Sickle Cell, please visit the SCDAA website. For further information on SCD, including statistics, webinars, toolkits and a national resource directory, please visit the HHS CDC's SCD webpage, available in both English and Spanish.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/Indian Health Service (IHS): Grant. Tribal Management Grant Program. This funding opportunity seeks to enhance and develop health management infrastructure and assist Tribes/Tribal organizations in assuming all or part of existing IHS programs, functions, services and activities.

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU): Grant. HIV/AIDS Community Information Outreach Program. Provides support to organizations and libraries to design and conduct projects that will improve access to HIV/AIDS related health information for patients, the affected community and their caregivers.

  • HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA): Grant. Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) Payment Program. The purpose of CHGME is to compensate for the disparity in the level of federal GME funding for freestanding children's teaching hospitals versus other types of teaching hospitals.

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Research grant. Health Promotion Among Racial and Ethnic Minority Males (R01 Clinical Trial Optional). Supports research in the health of minority men, specifically the understanding of the numerous factors (e.g., sociodemographic, community, societal, personal) influencing the health-promoting behaviors of racial and ethnic minority males across the life cycle.

  • Health Forward FoundationSafety Net Grants Program. Supports projects and programs that improve access for vulnerable populations to a safety net of quality primary and oral health services in Kansas City, Missouri, the Missouri counties of Cass, Jackson and Lafayette, and the Kansas counties of Allen, Johnson and Wyandotte.
    Deadline for Letter of Intent is July 24. Learn more.

Scholarships / Fellowships

  • International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Physician Assistants (IASCNAPA): Scholarship for Persons with Sickle Cell Disease. Eligibility is limited to individuals diagnosed with a form of SCD and who are enrolled in or have been accepted by a recognized and accredited institution of higher education. An active IASCNAPA member or a SCD medical provider must sponsor all applicants.

  • Candice's Sickle Cell FundScholarship for Persons with Sickle Cell Disease. Eligibility is limited to individuals diagnosed with a form of SCD and who are enrolled in or have been accepted by a recognized and accredited institution of higher education.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Building Strong Support for Elders
  • HHS, the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization recognize June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). For further information, events, social media messaging and other resources, please visit the University of Southern California's Center on Elder Mistreatment, as well as the HHS Administration for Community Living (ACL)'s Elder Justice website, which was developed to build public and professional understanding about elder abuse and to strengthen the social supports needed to prevent it.

  • HHS/Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP): Request for comments on a proposed new health literacy definition for Healthy People 2030: "Health literacy occurs when a society provides accurate health information and services that people can easily find, understand, and use to inform their decisions and actions."

Clinical Trials

  • HHS/NIH, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI): Clinical trial. Improving the Results of Bone Marrow Transplantation for Patients with Severe Congenital Anemias. NIH researchers seek volunteers age 2-65 years old with SCD and who are at high risk for disease related morbidity or mortality. Study to be conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD.   • The University of California, Davis, in collaboration with HHS CDC: Behavioral study. Men and Providers Preventing Suicide (MAPS). Researchers seek male and male-identifying volunteers age 35-74 who have disclosed active suicidal thoughts within the past 4 weeks.
